News and Info from HCS -- August 3, 2023
Hornet Nation,
Now that it is August, we are in high gear, getting ready for your children to return to school! Like all school years, a lot remains the same, and much is new as well.
One thing that remains constant is our dedication to providing your children with engaging intellectual challenges, ensuring their emotional wellbeing, and supporting their future stories. Working hand-in-hand with you, our goal is that each child will have an infinite array of opportunities before them when they graduate.
As well as welcoming new students this year, we are also welcoming new teaching and administrative staff members, as well as some seasoned Hornets taking on new positions within our organization:
- GSRP: Jenny Ogg (PreK)
- Larson: Ashley Tuttle (K), Tara Standen (1), Heidi Hughes (2), Shannon Stalnaker (2), Melody Lake (Social Worker), Brenda Blain (Special Ed)
- MS: Brad Carlstrom (Assistant Principal), Chris Manick (Social Studies), Sarah Morris (Counselor), Amy Mead (ELA), Hayley Russell (ELA), Madison Ledbetter (Math)
- Hive: Stacey VanAntwerp (Principal), Kelly Cook (Science), Kate Russell (ELA)
- HS: Joe Monroe (Social Studies)
- Administration: Shannon Haines (State & Federal Programs)
- Maintenance: Blake Wallace
Please scroll through this newsletter for open house information, changes to drop off and pick up spots at Larson and the MS/HS, and reminders about our new dress code.
In partnership and with Hornet Pride,

Bus/Car/Walker Safety
MS/HS: Buses will drop off and pick up students in the rear of the campus. This is a change from last year. Buses will leave that area and come around the front end of the school. If you are bringing your child to school or picking them up, you will use the curb lane that runs the length of the front side of the MS/HS campus, and cannot block the drive pathway for the buses as they head to Larson.
Dress Code
Below is a full version of our revised dress code, as well as a shortcut graphic to help with typical questions. The graphic is unisex.
New Bus Riders
If your child will be a new bus rider this year, please complete the attached form and return it either to your child's school or fax it to 989.539.7491.
