Emergency Drills
At the Sherwood School District, we know you entrust your children to us each day and we do not take that responsibility lightly. The District has worked diligently over the years to establish comprehensive safety protocols and emergency procedures in order to help keep our students and staff safe -- on a daily basis, and in the unlikely event of an emergency.
During the past few weeks, we have been educating our students about emergency procedures. These drills are held three times a year and help ensure that students and staff are clear about what to do in an emergency situation. The lockdown drills provide valuable feedback for the District’s Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Next week, we will be conducting district-wide emergency drills in order to give our students and staff an opportunity to practice what they know. We have taken great care to make sure our conversations about this topic are age appropriate, and we want you to be aware of our drills so you can visit with your children at home, too.
On September 27 at 1:00 pm, Middleton will be practicing a lockdown drill. During the lockdown drill, staff and students are secured within their individual classrooms/offices and there is no movement in the building. Other district administrators, and possibly the Sherwood Police, will be on-site to observe and provide feedback for our drill. If you are around our campus during the time of our drill, please do not be alarmed by the increased police or admin presence.
Please note that no one will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until the drill has concluded. Please plan ahead if you need to drop off or pick up your student during the day of a drill.

Art Literacy
Calling all ART Lovers! We are restarting our Art Literacy Program and would love to have your participation. Please join us on Thursday, September 29th at 9am for an Informational meeting about the program and volunteer opportunities. We would love to start projects ASAP for our students and in order to do that we need a lot of hands. If you cannot make it but would like more info, please email kbeadnell78@gmail.com and we will get in touch with you.

School Meals: Free & Reduced and Expanded Income Eligibility Programs
We recognize the impact that returning to paid school meals this year can have on family budgets, and encourage parents/guardians to complete an eligibility application to determine if your family qualifies for free or reduced meals -- even if your family may not have been eligible under federal guidelines in past years. The Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility Group (EIG) supports families who do not qualify for meal benefits using federal income guidelines. It provides meal benefits to households with incomes above 185%, but not exceeding 300%, of the federal poverty guidelines.
To apply for either Federal or EIG free/reduced meal eligibility, please complete the Online Free and Reduced Meal Application. For more details on income-based eligibility, please click the image below to access the Federal and Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility charts for the 2022-23 school year.

SSD Parents - We want your feedback!
The Sherwood School District is conducting a community engagement process as we assess how to best meet the needs of our students and families. At last night’s Back to School Night, we shared a short presentation about this process, as well as an opportunity to complete a parent/guardian feedback survey.
If you were unable to attend last night’s presentation, the information can be found here.
To complete our parent/guardian survey, please visit bit.ly/3DmQiCh or scan the QR code to the right to access our online survey. To complete the survey in Spanish, please visit bit.ly/3Su2OUC.
