As we began to explore the virtue of thankfulness this week, it has given us cause to stand back and consider all the things we are thankful for.

I am incredibly grateful that God has given me the opportunity to join the St Joseph's family - and what an incredible, vibrant and loyal family it is, too!

We are now gathering quite a number of followers on Twitter, so feel free to have a look at all the exciting photos and videos we post on there each day. We have linked in with the other schools in Tadcaster, other community organisations and projects, the Bishop Wheeler schools across Yorkshire, and even Pope Francis - it's inspiring to see what everyone is up to locally, as well as further away!

I would like to say a personal thank you, in particular, to the people who are coming in early to help with refreshments at celebration assembly and the people giving up their time to organise Freeze Pop Friday (which may change to something a little warmer shortly, given the turn in the temperature this week!).

Thank you for getting your children to us on time each day and for all the support you give them in their learning at home too.

We are really grateful for how wonderful our families are!

As I mentioned above, this week, our virtue is thankfulness.

If your child shows thankfulness at home, please share this with us (feel free to email me or let me know on the gates in the morning) and we will celebrate this in school too!

Linked to our virtue of thankfulness, we have introduced 'staff shout outs'! Last week, we received some lovely shout outs and it was great to share these with the staff!

If you would like to celebrate a member of staff at any point, feel free to 'shout out' using the button below. We will pass your message on to the member of staff to share your thankfulness.

We were delighted to celebrate our Harvest Festival in school this morning, with so many families joining us!

Thank you also to Father Sean for joining us in celebration.

Our children did a fabulous job of leading our Bible reading, prayers and song, and showcasing their class learning on thankfulness this week.

The donation table was overflowing! Your thoughtful donations will go to our local foodbank project at The Barn in Tadcaster. On Monday, St Therese's Class will take them down (if they can carry them!).

It has been brought to our attention that some of our pupils have been involved in exchanging unkind messages in social media groups outside of school.

Keeping children safe online | NSPCC

From next week, we are attending weekly Mass at St Joseph's Church! We are really excited to be launching this, as it will help to strengthen our links with our local parish and gives the children the chance to become more familiar with the celebration of Mass.

Each Wednesday, a different class will be attending Mass, beginning with St Bernadette's next week.

Families are always warmly welcomed at Mass, which begins at 10am.

We've been continuing our learning about the season of Autumn and used our mark-making skills to create Autumn leaf pictures!

St Francis have been listening to the story of Funny Bones. We have written our own Funny Bones stories and we are very proud of them! If anyone has any other books from the series that you would be able to share with us, we would love to read them.

In Art, we were looking at Julian Opie and used a transferral and tracing method to create our own versions of his unique portraits!

n St. Patrick's Class this week we continued to learn about tone and shading in art. We focused on Baptism in RE and looked deeply into the meaning of the Sacrament using role play.

This week, St Therese Class became members of the press. They visited a famous archaeologist, Howard Carter, in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt where they learned about his search for the lost tomb of Tutankhamun, and subsequent discovery of steps previously hidden beneath ancient workmen's huts. Then, they wrote brief newspaper articles on their meetings with Mr Carter. They are looking forward to their next interview with him.

We are holding a welcome 'settling in review' evening on Thursday 9th November. This will be an opportunity to meet your child's class teacher and hear how they are settling into a new school year.

The booking system is not yet open (you will be notified when it is) but you will need to use our Arbor portal to do so. Most of you have already connected with Arbor but if you haven't, you will need to do this ASAP.

Friends of St Joseph’s!

This is an exciting relaunch of what was the PTA. Thanks to everyone who has shown their support and interest so far.

Friends of St Joseph’s aims to bring families and school together through fun events to fundraise for equipment and treats for our wonderful children.

We have set up a closed Facebook group to allow us to spread the word of these events along with ways to get involved.

As a newly formed group we are planning to meet on Monday 6th November (time and place tbc). This would be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved to join us and for us to firm the exciting plans for the year ahead.

We are already starting to make plans for our much loved Christmas fair which will be on Sunday 3rd December! Please keep an eye out for updates on the Facebook group or the newsletter for more details.

We have a number of children and staff with food allergies in school, including allergies to
nuts. Please talk to your children about not sharing any food they bring into school.

All school meals served from our kitchen are nut-free and we request that products with nuts are not brought into school.
