Happy Friday Nighthawks,
This week was jam packed with fun activities for our students! Mrs. Burnett's classroom earned Muffin Monday by having 95% or more of her students arrive on time for 3 weeks. The last week was full of 100% participation!! Way to go 4th grade! Our 5th grade students took the lead on a research project for Black History Month around influential figures who have, and are, shaping our history and nation. Great learning and there was a collaborative portion where they scaled pictures as a group in honor of these individuals. 6th grade is all about the oceans right now as they dive deep into their Ocean Animal Reserach Projects. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes were graced with a visit from a resident Valociraptor as they jumped into the Quadratic Park: A Parabolic Adventure activity. It has been a week full of smiles and memories at the 4-8 Campus.
Drills:
Parents, we are starting our drill schedule up now that we are back to full time in person learning. This week we did a HOLD drill, where we clear the hallways and secure rooms. This drill is intended for situations where we might have medical staff or situations that we do not want students to be a part of (seizures, loss oc conciousness, etc.). Our drill lasted 7 minutes and was successful.
Part of successful training for unanticipated events (weather, threat, or medical) is an important part of student safety. We have been lucky to have Officer Salazar working with classrooms to help them prepare for the drills that they will encounter while at school. At NVCS we use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). To learn more about this please visit:
https://iloveuguys.org/programs/standard-response-protocol-for-k-12/
This is a great resource for parents and offers parent/family resources to help guide conversations that can sometimes be difficult to navigate.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
Parent teacher conferences are right around the corner. Spring conferences will be held virtually (via Google Meets) on March 10th and 11th. A conference sign up email was sent to all parents Monday, February 22 at 10 am. Middle School Parents, please sign up for slots with your student's teachers and not just their homeroom teachers.
