Student Conferences: SMS Teachers will be holding parent conferences next week, Thursday, October 28th from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday, October 29th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Students will attend school as normal on the 28th, however, October 29th will be a non-school day for students.

Conferences will again be via Zoom link; however, teachers will conference individually this year rather than as a team as they did last year. Each teacher will be sending an electronic sign up to parents to select a time that works for them. You may sign up for a conference with one teacher, or as many as you feel is important for you to speak with. Please watch for conference information and sign-up links from your student’s teachers today.

Activities Buses for Middle School Students: Beginning November 1st two activities buses will be available to transport middle school students home. There will be an East Route and a West Route that will serve SMS students. The buses will run on each school day. Pick up will be at 4:30 each daily except Wednesday which will be at 3:30 at the front of the school. If you find that there is not a stop for your student close to your home, you may contact the Transportation Dept. and they will add the stop within 48 hours. 6th grade students spent the day learning about science at Stella Olsen Park. They rotated in groups through different sessions, learning about local plants, insects, and other topics. Thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to chaperone the three outdoor school days. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Sherwood Middle School Art Group: Mrs. Clyde will be offering an opportunity for students to be creative, develop skills, and create art among peers. The Art Group will meet Monday afternoons from 3:20 to 4:00 in the Art Room 12 beginning next week October 25th. A signed permission slip is required for students to participate. There is no cost for this group.

Health Curriculum: In the weeks to come we will begin rolling out our updated health curriculum. School Districts are required to teach the state standards that provide a comprehensive health education. In the upcoming months, teachers will share information regarding the curriculum and health skills students will be receiving. First trimester, 7th and 8th graders will begin these lessons and 6th grade lessons will begin in the second trimester. There are specific lessons eligible for opt-out which will be detailed in a Google form that will be emailed from your student’s Health teacher and in a printed version that will be sent home directly with your student. It is important that families acknowledge they received the information, regardless of if they choose to opt-out of any lessons. When you receive the form, please complete either the Google form or the printed copy to allow us to accommodate students who have chosen to opt-out. If you have questions, please contact your student’s Health teacher.
