Toothpick Tower Challenge
Mrs. Meek's AP Economics students were introduced to the concepts of total revenue, profit, fixed costs, variable costs, and total costs in a fun way. Students had to develop a building plan and then build their tower within 15 minutes. Students calculated their costs and their revenue. The team that earns the most profit was declared the winner.
Movers & Shakers
Students in Mr. Griffin’s eighth-grade History class recently welcomed guests Mr. Steve Brown and Ms. Kim Mulkey from the Monroe Museum as a kick-off to their upcoming project titled “Movers & Shakers.” Students will research interesting people using ideas and helpful suggestions from the experts – Mr. Brown and Ms. Mulkey. All students will be eligible to enter the museum sponsored essay contest along with other middle school students from the Monroe area. We can’t wait to hear what our students have uncovered about the people they have chosen to research including a few GWA alumni!
Disarming Dyslexia
By Doretta Power
Throughout the month, the PARC will share helpful information regarding dyslexia. There is no better time to learn how to support students struggling with dyslexia, while bringing awareness to others in the community about its effects on the student population.
It's important to remember, dyslexia is the most common cause of reading, writing, and spelling difficulties. Studies suggest one out of five students are affected by dyslexia. Learn more about dyslexia by clicking on the links below.

Community Helpers
Our K5 students have gained first-hand knowledge this week from a range of visiting community helpers – including ER nurse Morgan Ooley, builder Troy Ooley, K9 officer Jake Callaway and retail business owner Maghan Sisk. Our very curious Bulldogs loved the opportunity to learn about each visitors’ job and they asked plenty of great questions. Thank you to all who made community helpers week on “The Hill” an engaging educational experience for our K5 classes!
Preview Day on "The Hill"
Prospective parents for rising Pre-K3 through K5 students are invited to join us for Preview Day on Thursday, November 3. Top Dawgs
The Class of 2023 continued the much-anticipated GWA tradition of the annual senior Stone Mountain Trip on a misty Wednesday. The weather did not diminish the occasion (only the view from the top!) and the class enjoyed time spent together playing games, trekking up the mountain, and eating a delicious lunch provided by Class of 2023 parents. Senior Della Couch commented, “Overall, it was a great trip being able to take on the challenge of hiking a mountain with all my best friends and making plenty of new memories with them.”
