PES Fall Book Fair

Dates: Monday, October 30 through Friday, November 3

Hours: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 11:45 AM – 2:30 PM

Special Family Night in conjunction with International Festival on Thursday, November 2 from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM

Most items cost from $5 to $20

PES Grade Level Spelling Bee

On Thursday, Nov. 9, we'll recognize the 2 best spellers in each grade level. Students should check in their teachers immediately upon arrival, then First Graders should come directly to the AV Room to get their name cards and be seated on the stage. Spellers MUST be on time to start spelling by 8:30, or they will not be allowed to compete. 2nd Grade should also come at 8:30 so they'll be ready to go about 9 a.m. Once 1st Grade is over, I'll ask the office to call for the 3rd grade spellers, and so on through 5th grade. Parents are invited to this event, and you are welcome to bring your class to observe (VERY quietly), if you want. I will have some reliable 5th graders to help me in escorting the spellers to and fro, so your attendance not required.

All 1st and 2nd-place Grade Level Champions will join the 1st-place from each class for the all-school Championship in January.

I expect the 5th Graders to complete their championship by noon.

Message from the Reading Coach

Recently, your student's reading abilities were assessed for Providence's beginning of the year benchmark data. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who demonstrated reading deficiencies in two or more of the following areas: letter naming fluency, letter sound fluency, nonsense word fluency, sight words, oral reading accuracy and fluency, vocabulary, or comprehension will receive a Student Reading Improvement Plan (SRIP). You will be notified of your child's specific reading deficits via a notification letter and should soon be contacted to be involved in creating a plan to help your child improve his/her reading skills.

“I will treat you with respect so you will know how to treat me”. Respect starts with all of us. Respect yourself by making good and healthy choices, and respect others by showing them kindness, friendship and understanding.

*National Bullying Prevention Month.

It takes everyone working and standing together to stop bullying. One or two people will never stop bullying but if we stand together, we can prevent bullying in our school and in our community.

Message from the Nurse

If your child has a health condition that the school nurse should be specifically aware of and/or needs medication to be kept in the school clinic (either daily during school hours, as needed, or emergency medications), please contact Nurse Cathy at 256-428-7125 to set up a time to develop a health plan and drop-off medications. No student should be carrying medications with them unless a plan is in place with the nurse.
