Celebrating the Artistic Achievements of Students
We are proud to announce the remarkable accomplishments of our D103 students who recently participated in the 43rd Annual Consortium ArtFest held at Stevenson High School. This event showcased the exceptional talent and creativity of our young artists, with approximately 15 percent of D103 students having their artwork displayed at the art show.
Selected from Sprague, Half Day, and Daniel Wright, these students stood out for their hard work, excellent attention to detail, originality, and more. Each of the chosen students contributed a 2D or 3D artwork that captured their unique perspectives and artistic abilities. The mediums employed ranged from traditional techniques such as pencil, pen, acrylic paint, watercolor paint, and chalk pastel, to more unconventional forms like clay, sculpture, and collage.
“Students get so excited when they find out their artwork has been chosen for display. For some it is the highlight of their year. The show really is an amazing experience,” said Art Teacher Kerry Sweet.
Please visit the district’s Google Doc folder to see the students and their artwork.
Exploring Illinois History
In an immersive learning experience, the spirit of the Illinois State Fair came alive at Half Day School, offering our fourth-grade students a taste of farming, agriculture, and industry. As part of their ongoing exploration of our state's rich history, the students had the opportunity to engage in a range of hands-on activities that brought Illinois' heritage to life.
The highlights of the day were as diverse as Illinois itself. Students relished in the aroma and taste of freshly popped popcorn, a beloved treat often associated with the fair. They eagerly interacted with adorable newborn chicks, experiencing firsthand the agricultural traditions that have played a vital role in our state's development.
In a pretend field, our young farmers took up the challenge of planting seeds, gaining insight into the importance of agriculture in Illinois' economy. Meanwhile, they learned the art of milking a pretend cow, discovering the significance of dairy farming in our state's heritage.
Expanding their understanding beyond the agricultural realm, students also explored the intricacies of state government. They gained insight into the roles and responsibilities of elected officials, deepening their civic awareness and appreciation for democratic processes.
Mrs. Kelsey LaBelle shared, “Illinois State Fair provides fourth-graders with an immersive learning experience that goes beyond what we do in the classroom. The event connects the world outside Half Day and provides a greater lens to all of Illinois and its offerings. The kids love it!”
For more pictures of the state fair, please visit the school's Google Doc folder.

Lunch Balance
If your student has a Quest lunch balance it will be carried over to the next school year and applied to the account where the student attends school. If your D103 student is graduating out of Daniel Wright the balance will be transferred to a younger student.
