PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Since our last newsletter communication, we certainly have had a turn of events with the weather! After an extended weekend, students were certainly pleased to get outside at recess and play in the new snow. They have had so much fun sliding down the giant piles of snow and making snow forts. Fortunately, it hasn't been too cold and we are enjoying the time outside. Beginning on Monday, we will resume our tradition of taking turns using sleds and having a dedicated day to enjoy sledding.
As promised, here is some more information on our upcoming Read-A-Thon. Our them is "For the Love of Reading" and our fundraising goal is $2,500. Money raised will be divided into classroom accounts and given to all teachers for incidentals that were not included in our budget. This may include entrance fees for field trips, classroom rugs, and student incentives. Included in this folder is a SPONSOR sheet for students to gather pledges, and a page to track the number of minutes read at home. The timeline for gathering pledges is January 30th and 31st. Donors may pledge by the number of minutes read, or offer a flat donation amount. Students can begin tracking on February 1st. On February 17th, we will have a whole school reading event that will culminate with a celebratory snack provided by the PTA!
I hope you, your friends, and family will help support us in our effort!
READ-A-THON IN FEBRUARY!
Keep an eye out for information coming home today for our February Read-A-Thon! A pledge sheet will be going home for sponsors to sign up, and students will write their name on the form and record the minutes read from February 1-17th. Everyone may wear their pajamas in celebration on Friday, February 17th, and enjoy a PTA-provided snack. Completed forms and money (checks made out to PES) are due February 27th.
