This year we had a lot of high school students participate in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Competition. Our students did a great job! They all brought home Superior, Excellent, and one Outstanding ratings.

Solo and Ensemble participants prepare a song from a required music list and work outside of the choir class on crafting the musicality of their piece. They then go to the event and sing their song for a judge (an experienced music educator) and receive a rating. I am so excited to present our first ever Choral Cantata March 9 at 6:00pm! This event includes all choir students 6th-12th grades. All of the choirs are preparing special pieces for their ensemble, but we're doing something different and all of the ladies 6-12 are singing a piece and all of the men are doing the same. We are also doing a joint piece with all of the students in all of the choirs. It's the first time we've done anything like this and I am excited to present it to you.

March is National Music In Our Schools Month and this year the theme is "All Music, All People." Our repertoire for the concert incorporates music that has a purpose, music that is a call to action, using music to reach out to all people. We can't wait to share it with our community.

I would like to invite all Centerburg Choir Alumni as well as school staff members, or family of students in the choir who were part of choir themselves to join the Concert Choir in singing a piece during the March Choral Cantata.

In the past we've done alumni choir events and I know it is hard to make that commitment. This would be joining us in singing one song, Homeward Bound, which many of you have sung in your time in choir. I will make music and practice tracks available through email or if you want a hard copy you can stop by the school or I can mail it to you. I would love to have alumni from across the years and family members of current choir students involved. So many of you have made our program what it is today and we would like to honor that as well as make some music with you! Please share this with folks that you know would be interested. We will rehearse the song the day of the concert just before the concert starts so it would only be a short time commitment. The concert is March 9 at 6:00pm and we will meet to rehearse at 5:00.

The trip is drawing ever nearer! The finalized itinerary was sent out today and should come home with students today or tomorrow. We are so looking forward to all of the learning experiences we are going to share! We will be sharing details shortly about all of the finishing touches!

Centerburg will once again be hosting the OMEA Large Group Adjudicated event March 15 and 16. Although we are not participating this year, (it's the week before the D.C. Trip) many schools will be coming to ours for the event. We will need student volunteers for helping out with the event and will be sending out a signup genius for shifts soon.
