Hot Air Balloon
The hot air balloon day was on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Everyone was so excited!
The hot air balloon company was called Rohr Balloons. We had a lot of fun and afterwards we flew our own balloons that we made earlier. Some did not fly, some are living on the roof right now. Everyone enjoyed the hot air balloon, and probably learned something new!

Janet the Giant! By Ann-archy
Janet was lying on her couch when her phone rang. She picked it up, and her boss panicked on the other line. “Agent 789, you must get to the horse-only Walmart as soon as possible!”
I stood up and rushed to put on my agent uniform. As I zip up my vest, she explains the situation further, “There was a leak of the troll-mutant-virus thingy that we made last week, and a horse was the first exposed.”
I replied, “Dang, that got out already?” “Yes, and all the horses in the store are at risk. So get in your car and get there already!”
“Okay! Dang…” I hung up and got into my car. I turned onto Giant Road and waved to my fellow giant friends. I pulled onto the highway, which was too small for my giant-sized car. People started honking, and it was straight-up chaos. I just decided to start running people over. The press will cover it up anyway.
I pulled into the Walmart parking lot, built for horse cars, not giant cars, and opened my door. I walked up to Walmart, realizing my conundrum. I was too big to go inside the Walmart.
I ripped the roof off the second floor, but there were just stallions barricading the doors. I put the roof to the side and took off the second floor to look for the mutant horse. All of them were mutants. I took the first floor and put it in my truck. I drove to headquarters as fast as my car could take me.
My boss was waiting outside for me. “Janet! Please tell me you have it under control. I cannot be fired again!” She said, nervously.
“I have a bunch of test subjects? Now we can know what the virus does long term.” I replied.
“Oh- that is such a great idea! I’m so happy I thought of that.” She said as she turned around to get into her office. Before she closed the door she commented, “Good job today, Janet.”
“Thanks,” I reply, feeling relieved that I wasn’t in trouble.
*Two months later*
Ring, ring rin-
“Hello?” I asked.
“We have the results of the virus. All 200 of them died. Your fired. I’m probably fired too. Bye!” She said, really quick. “What?-” She cut me off by hanging up. I turned on the news and saw that everything was being shut down because of a new virus. A virus that only affected horses. It was the virus that killed all 200 of the horses. Oh no..
The end! Or not…

The Month of April
April is Black Women’s History Month and a lot of people don’t know! So I am here to inform you about it. We will be talking about 3 amazing Black Women that don’t get talked about enough.
First up is Mary McLeod Bethune. Mary McLeod Bethune was a racial justice activist who sought to improve educational opportunities for African-Americans. She is best known for starting a school for African-American students in Daytona Beach, Florida, that eventually became Bethune-Cookman University. She also served as both president of the National Association of Colored Women and founder of the National Council of Negro Women.
Next is Angela Davis. Angela Davis, born on January 26, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama, became a master scholar who studied at the Sorbonne. She joined the U.S. Communist Party and was jailed for charges related to a prison outbreak, though ultimately cleared. Known for books like Women, Race, & Class she has worked as a professor and activist who advocates gender equity, prison reform and alliances across color lines.
Last is Ida B. Wells Barnett. Ida Bell Wells-Barnett’s life was dedicated to ending horrible injustices against African-Americans. She traveled the country, speaking and writing about civil rights issues, unfair laws, and crimes against blacks. As more and more civil rights laws were ignored by society in the late 1800s, she became increasingly involved in politics to stop the trend of social injustice. She was instrumental in the fight against lynching, proving that these acts were essentially murders of innocent black men, women, and children, and boldly demanded that their white murderers be held responsible for their crimes. Later in life, she also founded or was involved in the creation of several organizations encouraging the advancement of women and other minorities.

History of April
April is the fourth month of the year but on the roman calendar it used to be the second month before they used January for the first month. April is named for the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. The name for the month of April originally came from Aprilis which means to open. I bet you knew the month April, but you never knew the history behind it!

The Holiday Of Easter
Sometimes Easter is celebrated by many in March and sometimes is occurs in April depending on how it follows the first full moon of the spring equinox. Easter or Resurrection Sunday, is a cultural celebration commemorating Jesus being risen from the dead, described in the bible as having occurred on the third day following his death by the Romans in 30 AD. It is preceded by Lent, a 40-day period of fasting. Nowadays, we hide plastic eggs and put candy in them. Many children believe the Easter bunny hides eggs for them to find.
Happy belated Easter!

5th grade field trip
This year, fifth grade had a field trip to Camp Grady Spruce. It was amazing! We had a 3 hour bus ride and then when we got there, we had an orientation. After that, we went wire-walking and rope-swinging. Then, we had burgers for lunch. After that, we went rock climbing. We also played on the beach. After that, we ate corn dogs for dinner and took the long ride back. It was so fun, and I hope we can go there again!

International Nurses Day
International Nurses Day was held on May 12, 2023, so hopefully you showed your appreciation to Nurse Casie with a little treat. 1974, in January of that year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) proclaimed that May 12 would be "International Nurse Day." (May 12 is the birthday of Florence Nightingale.) Since 1965, the ICN has celebrated "International Nurse Day. "The history of Nurses Day can be traced back to 1953 when Dorothy Sutherland of the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare sent a proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a Nurse Day in October of the following year.
International Nurses Day is celebrated because we care about our nurses and after all, nurses do so much for us. They deserve this and so much more.

Mother’s Day
Mother’s day is a holiday that celebrates our mothers.
It started in the US in the early 20th century with Anna Jarvis who organized the first Mother's Day service. It is not directly related to the many traditional celebrations of mother's traditions. The American version of Mother's Day has been criticized for having become too commercialized with all the cards and gifts. But we would like to thank our moms for all their hard work over the years with small gifts or hand-made cards which they do appreciate from their kids. Many mothers don't get time to spend with their children due to working on Mother's Day in these times. I really think companies should allow all mothers the day off, but that's my opinion.
Thank you Moms. I hope you enjoyed your day.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Month
By Ann-archy
In 1992, the month of May was designated by President George H. W. Bush as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The annual celebration honors the many contributions and accomplishments of Asian Americans, Pacific Islander Americans, and the Native Hawaiian.
During Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, communities celebrate the achievements and contributions of Asian and Pacific Americans with community festivals, government-sponsored activities and educational activities for students.
Every year there is a theme for the month. This year's theme is “A Seat at the Table,” which highlights the AAPI community's advancements and achievements, and calls for their continued equity and inclusion in society.
How do you celebrate AAPI month?
Memorial Day
This year, Memorial Day is Monday, May 29, 2023, and is always the last Monday of May. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. The day of remembrance for fallen U.S. soldiers has been commemorated since the end of the Civil War but has only been a federal holiday since 1971. These U.S soldiers sacrificed their lives to fight for America’s rights. These soldiers have trained for so long and worked day and night just so they could fight for America. So,we should treat all these U.S soldiers and other people who helped well. Memorial Day is remembering those who fought and those who even gave their lives.

Talent Show
On Thursday, April 13, the SIS talent show took place. It was directed by Mr. Hellberg, Mrs. Valenta, Mrs. Staley, and Mrs. Barnes. It was amazing to see what talents all of the students had! There were dances, songs, comedies, taekwondo demonstrations, and much more. I hope that everyone got to watch it! Maybe next year, you can join too!

5th grade Student Living Wax Museum
The student Living Wax Museum is about when a student chooses a famous historical figure and researches all about that person. Earlier in the week our social studies teacher spun a digital wheel or drew a stick, and we chose our character to research. We learned all about that person. The student had 3 weeks to finish the project.
Along with the project we created a poster, wrote a speech, and created a trifold. Students worked hard to finish the speech. Each Student performed the speech and showed the poster. Students had a choice to dress up or be in a white t-shirt and dark jeans. Down below are pictures from each pod of our final performance for parents, students and staff.

My NBA Playoff Predictions
If you watch the NBA, you probably already know that the playoffs are coming up! And for all the NBA fans, that means hours and hours of sitting on the couch watching tons of basketball games.
I'm going to give you some looks and predictions on all the upcoming playoff games.
And yes, the playoffs would be 2x more interesting if our hometown team the Mavericks were in it, but the playoffs will still be super fun to watch.
The first series is the Nets against the 76ers. I think this will be a fun series to watch. You will be watching a very young team that just traded Kyrie to the Mavs and Kevin Durant to the Suns against a team full of superstars that have been in the league for a while. And I think the Philadelphia 76ers will win this series, advancing to the next round of the NBA playoffs in 4 games.
The next series is the Hawks versus Celtics. I don't think this series will be close at all. As long as the whole Celtics roster is able to stay healthy, the Celtics will dominate the Hawks in 5 games.
The next series is the Knicks against the Cavaliers. Neither team is extraordinarily talented but I think the Knicks will win this series in 6 games. I expect Julias Randle to post a career high and Brunson to have an amazing postseason.
The next series is the Warriors against the Kings. The Warriors have had great postseason experiences, including winning the finals last season. I think they have a better chance of not folding under the pressure and they will play really well in the playoffs. I think the Warriors will win this series in 7 really close and very interesting games.
The next series in the first round of the NBA playoffs is the Grizzlies against the Lakers. I honestly believe both teams are pretty talented. But the Lakers have no chance of winning unless Lebron does really well.
Therefore it's really a hit or miss series but I think Lebron will do really well just not quite enough to beat the Grizzlies. And I predict that the Grizzlies will win this series in 6 games.
The next series is the Suns versus the Clippers. Honestly, I'm dying to watch this series. My belief is that Kevin Durant just can't be stopped and if he does he still has Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and of course Deandre Ayton to pass to. Therefore I do not think the Clippers have enough talent to stop the Suns and I think the Suns will win this series in 5 games.
The next series is Heat against the Bucks. This series will be interesting to watch because Giannis is hurt therefore it will be closer. My prediction is that the Heat will win this series in 7 games.
The final series in round one is the Nuggets against the Timberwolves. I think the Nuggets will win in 5 games, with a very dominant performance in all the games by Jokic and Jamal Murray.
In the next round the Philadelphia 76ers play against the Boston Celtics. I love both teams but James Harden will make his return and beat the Celtics in 6 games, posting ridiculous scores like 132 to 130 and crazy scores like that. I also believe not only will he tie his NBA playoff points record but also beat it and win the series, as I said, in 6 games.
The next series is the Grizzlies and the Warriors. This is without doubt the most challenging series to pick the winner. But after going over this multiple times I definitely have the Warriors winning this series in 7 games. I just don't think there is one player on the Grizzlies that can stop Steph Curry from scoring 45 plus points. I also think that the Grizzlies are way too cocky and disrespectful to their opponents, and think that will come right back at them.
The next series is the Nuggets against the Suns. And I really think the Nuggets are super overrated. And I think they will lose this series in 6 games.
The final series in round two of the NBA playoffs is the Heat versus the Knicks. There is no doubt in my mind that the Heat will win in six games. Both teams are undoubtedly one of the most talented teams in the NBA, but without a doubt Jimmy Butler will carry his team on his back and win this series in 6 games.
Next up the Warriors play against the Suns in the Western Conference Finals to have a chance of playing in the NBA finals against the Eastern Conference Finalists. This is the series I have definitely been waiting to watch but I think the Warriors will win this series in 6 games to play in back to back NBA finals.
Then in the NBA eastern conference finals the 76ers play against the Miami Heat. And I think this will be a five game win for the 76ers sending them to the NBA finals against the Warriors.
And man, you don't know how hard this is for me to decide who will win the finals. I'm choosing between last year's NBA champions who have Steph Curry, Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, and last but not least, Curry’s splash bro Klay Thompson. But don’t think that's it, they have amazing background players that still play a giant role in their team. You might be thinking, "How would that team lose?” Well this is how: the other team consists of James Harden, the most likely MVP for this year Joel Embid, Tyrese Maxey, and finally, three point shooter Tobias Harris. And of course really good background players just like the Warriors. Both teams are so evenly matched it could go either way. But I think that the 76ers will win this series in seven very tight games to win the Finals and become the 2023 NBA champions.
No matter what happens, this will be one of the greatest playoffs in NBA history!

The Mystery of the Egg-Pringles!!
Early in the morning of April first Emma Ramsay (Gordon Ramsay’s daughter) came to SIS and mixed 126 Original Pringles and 347 raw eggs. They left it in the cafeteria and when the cleaning crew came that same morning, they reported seeing the mixture in all of the classrooms and even on the ceiling.
When teachers arrived they reported the mixture being on the outside of the building, making entering, or leaving, close to impossible. They tried to move the mixture with their hands, but it wouldn't move an inch. School was canceled and it hasn’t been opened since.
When officers showed up on April 2, they tried to shoot a hole into the gooey substance, but the mixture just dissolved the bullet. After this incident, the Egg-Pringle mix was classified as a dangerous substance. It started to spread across the grass and the roads. It started to infest homes in Sunnyvale.
Gordon went on live TV to say the following, “I am so ashamed in Emma. I taught her to make food that's enjoyable, easy to eat, and tastes great. This mixture doesn’t meet any of those requirements. I don’t plan on bailing her out of chef jail anytime soon. I almost made this same mistake when I was younger. Thank God I did it with Original Lays™.”
If you find an answer or solution please come forward for a reward of meeting your choice of a famous person. Thank you for reading.
This is Ann-archy, signing off.
