10A1 have worked incredibly hard this term in English. They have completed several extended responses for literature and language and Miss Magnay is very impressed with what they have achieved. Special mention to Rhema, Mason, Jana, Seth and Emma for the insightful contributions that they bring to every lesson. Also nominated are Year 11 literature class who have made some excellent progress with their unseen poetry responses. Special mention to Danielle, Josephus, Alfie, Leila, Andrew, Kelly, Ellie and Nive for their excellent effort during every single lesson.
Music:
Year 7 - 7SI started a group project to compose their own work song this week. I was particularly impressed with how responsibly the practice rooms were used, in addition to the wide range of creative ideas students came up with. A special mention to Lucas, Haydn, Harry, Evie and Maja for their superb teamwork skills – excellent work!
Year 8 - this week it was great to see the improvement in 8CA’s ukulele ‘muscle memory’. I could see that students are moving more fluidly between chords and most were brave enough to attempt the off-beat strumming pattern in a whole class performance of ‘Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. In particular; Calin, James, Cullen and Madison showed how practice really does make perfect!
Year 9 - this week year 9 have begun their final project for this unit – composing an underscore for a section of film. This requires students to use a variety of film music techniques. It has been really interesting to hear each student’s individual response to the film clip and I have already heard some brilliant work from Thomas and Liam in 9TA.

Miss Buffini has nominated Tawana and David (7TU) for a great History lesson and for being so helpful and CJ (7CA) for great effort in History. On Wednesday, our Year 13 students visited the University of Northampton to find out what it is like to study at university. They were given a full tour of the campus by a student ambassador, along with a talk on study skills from the university librarian and a presentation on what to expect next in the application process. The weather was stunning and allowed us to take advantage of the beautiful views from the rooftop terrace, and even a game or two of table football at lunchtime. An incredibly informative day and one that will hopefully help our students with their post-18 decision making.
