Principal's Corner- Mrs. Kohel
Happy New Year! I hope you had a relaxing break and were able to spend quality time with family and friends. Can you believe we will be half way through the school year at the end of this month? The school year seems to be flying by and it has been wonderful to see all that our staff and students have accomplished so far.
We are excited to welcome students back to school from their holiday break and officially into the winter months! Remember, they MUST be dressed properly for the weather. We go outside unless it is raining or we have unsafe temperatures. Winter coats, boots, hats and gloves are necessary for the duration of winter. If students want to play in the snow, they must wear snow pants and boots. Please make sure your child has their winter gear with them, and talk with your child about having to wear it at recess.
This month, we will be doing mid-year assessments to gauge student progress. All students from 3rd-5th grade will take part in winter MAP. Our classroom teachers are also gathering academic information to guide their instruction and to use to communicate student progress on the report cards that will be completed at semester. If you have any questions regarding your students growth or report cards, please reach out to their classroom teacher.
This month we will be focusing on perseverance. We define this as pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles. Our aim is to have students build skills around our monthly trait and be able to apply these in real life situations. The new year is a great time to talk about working through things that are difficult and pushing through. Ask your child throughout the month how they can persevere when things are hard and what strategies they can use.
As always, please reach out at anytime. We are here to partner with all of our families to make each child's learning experience the best it can be.
Sincerely,
Katie Kohel
