Bring on 2023 - Happy New Year!
From the Principal...
Hello MacArthur Family,
This month is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up.
Perseverance is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting. How might you practice Perseverance as a family this month?
Here are 2 “PurposeFull Pursuits” for you to complete together.
Pursuit 1:
Consistency is hard. Have each person in the family commit to 1 thing they will do each
day this week. Maybe it is flossing, drinking a certain amount of water, getting to bed at
a certain time, limiting screen time, or exercising. Create a place where each person
can tally their progress and see who can keep their streak going the longest!
Pursuit 2:
We have all demonstrated Perseverance in our lives. Many of us have seen people practice Perseverance in ways that have inspired us. Stories are powerful tools for connecting as a family. Protect time this week to share stories about Perseverance with each other (you can use the story prompts to get started). At the end of the conversation, think of 1 way you can practice Perseverance this week.
Story Prompts:
A time when I (or someone else) showed Perseverance was _____.
An act of Perseverance that changed/challenged me was _____.
Sincerely,
Mr. Gonzalez

Notes from the Office:
As we start the new year, we are experiencing some safety concerns and backups during drop off and pick up at the start and end of our school days. If you, or a family member, are someone who drives a vehicle to drop off or pick up your scholar(s) at MacArthur, please DO NOT get out of your vehicle in the car line. If you need to get out of your vehicle to safely drop off or pick up your child, you need to park in a parking space (not in the vehicle line), and walk to the arrival/dismissal door.
** Please refrain from passing cars in the vehicle line - we would like to have one line of traffic moving along efficiently. Please wait for the vehicle(s) in front of you to move before going forward and exiting the parking lot.
In the below map, the white arrows represent the vehicle line for cars that are dropping off or picking up students that are able to get in/out of their cars independently. Please pull up as far as you can to allow the maximum amount of cars to drop off or pick up at once. Do not stop in front of the doors if there is space to pull up further. The blue highlighting represents a small parking lot for a guardian who needs to get out of the vehicle to help the student(s) out of/into the car. This is the space in which you should be able to park to assist your child out of the vehicle in the morning. At dismissal, if your child is able to get into the car independently (or with the help of a staff member opening/closing the door), this is also a good space to pull into after your child has gotten in the car, to safely help them get buckled up.
In summary:
At arrival, if you are unable to unbuckle your child without getting out of the car, or they are not able to do it themselves, you should plan on parking your car, and walking them to door 12 starting at 8:50.
At dismissal, have your child get in on the passenger side and sit in the car seat. If he/she cannot buckle themselves, then please pull ahead and park in the lot on the right. There, you can get out and help with buckling.
If you get out in the pick up/drop off line, it causes backups and safety concerns. Parking and walking with your child is required if you need to get out of your car to help your child safely get into or out of school.

News from the PTA
Hello Everyone! I hope everyone had a great Winter Break and we are all recharged for the new year.
We have our first PTA meeting of 2023 on Thursday, 1/12, at 7 PM in the school library. Child care will be provided and you can also attend via Zoom here.
We are currently focused on the MacCarnival in February. We need volunteers for our Basket Raffle team and our Silent Auction team so if you would like to help. Please reach out via ptamacarthur@gmail.com. If you have a home business or if the business you work for can donate to our Silent Auction, please reach out as well.
On that note, if your business is willing to donate to our Fun Run t-shirt fund, please let us know via email. All companies that donate will get their logo on the back of our t-shirts.
The Silent Auction session we had in December was a great success and we raised over $600 with our first mini-Auction. The January Auction will start on Friday, January 20th and will end at noon on February 1st. As in December, you will see our donor spotlights on Facebook and Instagram as we have items from Chocolate Factory Subs, The Racine Zoo and Village Bowl among other items!
Thank you!
