Student Attendance Including Leaving Early
As part of the state attendance laws, we must track both full-day and partial-day absences. BCISD has had a practice of informing parents of full-day absences for many years. This year, parents of students with early check-outs will receive a letter to communicate the number of days your child was checked out of school early in addition to the letters regarding full-day absences. If your child is being checked out for a medical reason, please provide a note from your physician the next school day so the early check-out may be excused. For the 2021-2022 school year, early check-outs are not being utilized to determine truancy, however, they are being tracked to grow awareness. In order to comply with state attendance laws, this may be changed in future school years.
At Shady Grove, teachers plan for and provide a full day of learning from 7:40 am to 3:20 pm each day. When students are checked out early, they are missing critical instruction that impacts their academic growth. We appreciate your partnership in limiting absences and early check-outs to the minimum that is necessary for your child's well-being.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
I've loved seeing parents on campus for conferences! Parent-Teacher conferences are in progress and will continue through Nov. 5th. This beginning-of-the-year conference is a valuable opportunity for teachers and parents to get some face-to-face time to discuss students' academic achievement. If you have not received information yet from your child's teacher regarding the conference, please be on the look for information coming soon.
The Book Fair was a success!
We appreciate our volunteers who helped us through the week! Pictured to the left are just a few!
We also send a shout-out to our local HEB for their donation of plastic bags!
See pictures from Reading Under the Stars below!
Teachers love to hang out in the Book Fair!
Can't camp out without Smores mix!
Teachers were excited to see so many families reading under the stars!
Car Line Reminders
We have observed that some cars are driving past the line of cars on CR 200, turning into the fire lane, and then cutting into their lane in front of all of the cars who are following the appropriate car line procedures. Be kind in line!
Pack shoes for PE!
Please help your student remember to bring appropriate shoes for PE. We see a lot of flip flops, boots with heels, and Crocs. Sometimes, non-athletic shoes can present safety concerns depending on the activities we have planned. Students can always pack sneakers, change into them before PE, and change out of them after PE. Thanks for your help!
Shady Grove is hosting a Read-a-Thon!
How do we raise money?
You raise money from sponsors who support your reading efforts. Sponsors are people like friends and family who care about your education. You get the most sponsors by using our free tools that include emailing, texting, Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Sponsors make a one-time flat donation to support the school and student as they focus on reading!
What books do our readers use?
The great thing about the program is that you can choose the books your readers will read or they can read their own choices. The important thing is the reading time not the reading materials.
How does the prize center work?
Readers keep 15% of the money they individually raise to spend in the prize store.
