February 2024 Report
Athletic Director Notes:
SPRING SPORTS ARE HERE !!
The latest on campus...
Basketball season has concluded, powerlifting is gearing up for a shot at regionals, soccer is at the midway point, softball and track are underway, while tennis and golf are right around the corner. Currently every coach on our staff is in season. We have many multi-sport athletes who will be playing two and sometimes three sports simultaneously. Spring is by far the busiest time of year for our athletic program. We are working hard and expecting to accomplish big things this spring!
BHS Scholar Athletes
Our program recognizes high school athletes who excel in the following categories: GPA, Varsity Letterman and sportsmanship. These student-athletes are being recognized for having a GPA of 3.5 or better during our fall semester, lettering, and being in good standing with their coach and teammates. This is something new we've started here at BHS this year. It is a great way to recognize these students for their hard work in the classroom while playing sports.
Coach Norman earns her first Head Coaching victory!
As head coaches, we all can remember our first win at the varsity level. We would like to congratulate Coach Madison Norman on her first victory as a high school Head Soccer Coach. Our Lady Warriors defeated Pilot Point 1-0 with another goal scored at the buzzer, but it was waived off. Coach Norman played soccer here at BHS and takes pride in the program. We look forward to watching this program grow under her leadership.
Softball scrimmages Denison
Lady Warrior Softball season is underway and scrimmaged Denison on 2/5. The final score was Denison 5, Bonham 2. Reyleigh Shockley kicked off her senior season on the mound as she prepares for her college softball career at PJC. Our team only lost 2 seniors last year's Co-District Champ and Bi-District Champ squad, so they are experienced and have high expectations. Currently, there are enough girls to field a varsity and a JV team this season.
Track season is here!
Lady Warrior Track & Field currently has 35 girls signed up to participate. Practices started on January 29th. We share several athletes with soccer and softball. We have 5 invitationals on our schedule plus district, so our teams are guaranteed (weather permitting) 6 meets. Those who advance to area and regionals will compete in 8 meets. Our Jr. High teams began practicing on Feb. 5th and we are still waiting on official numbers as they continue tryouts and filling their events.
