End of Year Thoughts
Did you know that this year, we have had over 2400 hours of volunteer time at Ewing Young? What an amazing amount of volunteer hours tallied over the school year. These hours could have been working one-on-one with students, in small groups, field trips, helping to prepare materials, or organizing events, regardless of how they were accumulated each and every volunteer hour is appreciated by our staff and students. THANK YOU!!
While there may not be many days left in the school year, we have multiple opportunities to highlight the strength of our community. We have field trips remaining where our parent volunteers support our students and staff as they extend the learning outside of our school walls. Next week we welcome parents and family into our school for field day, 5th grade promotion, and our end of year BBQ. These are special events that all help complete our school year.
Thank you for a wonderful year, and we look forward to seeing you at our final events.

Summer Fun
I know for my family and two sons, the idea of summer learning is not always exciting to them. We have tried a variety of "fun" workbooks, camps, and learning challenges. What it all boils down to is, finding a way to motivate your child to continue their learning. There is no right or wrong approach, rather by implementing a summer plan and igniting your child's passion for learning everyone wins.
Here are a few ideas for you as your family begins summer:
- Designate time for learning every day - setting aside 30 minutes everyday is all it takes.
- Reading, reading, reading - help your son or daughter find a book on any topic that excites them. Asking them questions afterwards helps to build their reading comprehension skills and is a great way to be involved in the learning. We will be sending out a summer reading bingo, which is a great motivator for many students.
- Developing math skills - It can be as simple as 3 or 4 math questions or having them help bake in the kitchen can help keep their math skills from getting rusty over the summer.
- Encourage writing - keeping a journal about their summer activities is a simple way to incorporate writing. This could also be something they can share with their teacher in the beginning of next year.
- Get outside and explore - a trip to a park or nearby forest can provide a terrific learning experience.
- Stay active and healthy - with the warmer weather comes great opportunities to get outside and be active.
Finishing out the year
- We will be sending out class placement letters through email in August. Please make sure your contact information is current.
- Medication needs to be picked up by the last day of this school year.
