HS Newsletter - November 2022
Developing student-focused pathways for a lifetime of opportunities through
innovation, exploration, and community partnerships.
Principal's Message
Hi CLA families,
With Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving both coming soon, I am reminded of all the freedoms I have to be thankful for. I am thankful for those who have served in the Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. It is through their commitment and determination that our freedoms remain secure. I am thankful for the traditions of Thanksgiving. The coming together of Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians to celebrate the first harvest in the New World; was another victory attained through commitment and determination to secure freedom.
I am thankful for the freedom I have to work and serve students at CLA! CLA is yet another example of the American tradition of securing freedom through commitment and determination. We believe in your freedom to choose where your student attends school; I am thankful that you chose CLA! We will forge ahead with commitment and determination to provide our students with an education that facilitates their freedom to engage in a lifetime of opportunities.
With gratitude,
Jennifer Evans
CLAHS Principal

It's CAREER DEVELOPMENT MONTH! November’s National Career Development Month signals a time for schools, families and communities to support students as they focus on their future career choices. No matter their age, students in every classroom have an opportunity to explore careers. Navigating the uncertainty of the formative years takes courage, curiosity, and outside support. A single conversation can spark a passion that leads to a lifetime of reward. A recent study from the Coalition for Career Development, found that each meaningful career conversation results in increased future wage earnings and sustained employment in early adulthood.

Leadership at the Fall Festival
On behalf of CLA PTO,
We want to thank Mrs. Curry and the many leadership students who helped at the Fall Festival. The event was a huge success! We couldn’t have done it without all of you! We’ve heard from teachers and parents that the leadership students were so helpful and great with all the younger kids. The booth you ran was a wonderful addition as well! When setting up I would ask leadership to help with certain tasks and they did so right away with great attitudes! We truly are grateful for all your help on such a spectacular night! We look forward to collaborating on many more events in the future.
Sincerely,
Angie Daniels & Jenna Thomas

DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMEN
Will Young is a Community Impact Director from United Way of Jackson County and began volunteering at CLA last year. His focus is on student mental health and wellness and he supports this by highlighting the very best in CLA students! He builds others up no matter where he goes!
This year, Will is kicking off a new group at CLA called Distinguished Gentlemen. "Will is passionate about helping young men incorporate their families into the journey called life. The Distinguished Gentlemen Initiative exists to partner with parents and community leaders to get the best from our young men. We recognize as an entity; young men are faced with odds that are not insurmountable but are certainly challenging. We are hoping that these young men become ambassadors during this series."
Distinguished Gentlemen will meet at lunch on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of each month for the duration of the school year. Students who choose to join will participate in small group discussions ranging from "The Value of Enlightenment" to "Having Difficult Conversations."
