Health and Safety
Stay home if you are sick: We ask our families to keep children home if they exhibit any Covid-19 symptoms for the safety of our students and staff. It is the most important thing you can do to help us mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on our campus.
What do I do if someone in my home contracts the Covid-19 virus? Please call the principal at 321-952-5880 x24503 if your student, or someone living in your home, contracts the Covid-19 virus. We will help you determine the correct dates for quarantine and when your student can return to campus for instruction.
Clinic Policy: During the pandemic, any student sent home from our school clinic with Covid-19 related symptoms must quarantine for 10 calendar days unless (1) the student receives a negative Covid-19 test and brings the printed result to the school nurse or, (2) the student's family physician diagnoses the student's condition as something other than Covid-19 and writes a note allowing the student to return to school.
Updated Quarantine Information
Quarantine Information: In accordance with guidance from the Brevard Department of Health, students who are contacts to a positive case will not be required to quarantine under the following circumstances:
- The student has had the full Covid vaccine AND is asymptomatic.
- The student has tested positive for the Covid virus in the last 90 days AND is asymptomatic.
- If the student is a contact to a positive case within their home, they can take a Covid test on Day 5 from their last exposure to the positive individual. If the student tests negative for Covid AND is asymptomatic, they can return to campus on Day 6.
We are required to confirm both receipt of the Covid vaccine or a positive Covid test before excusing a student from the quarantine requirement. You may wish to have your student keep a picture of their vaccination card or test result on their cell phone for quick access, or to keep the actual vaccination card or test result in their possession while at school.

Dean's Corner
We ask our students to dress for success at school. Our focus for enforcement of the dress code is on issues related to modesty and campus safety. When students encounter a problem with the school dress code is it usually because of one of these reasons:
A. Low-cut shirts --The dress code requires that shirts completely cover the student's chest and midsection. No part of the chest should be visible in the interest of modesty.
B. Short shorts --The dress code requires that shorts are long enough to completely cover the student's bottom when standing or sitting.
C. Undergarments --Student undergarments should not be visible underneath their shirt (i.e. see through), nor should undergarments be visible if the student wears a tank top.
D. Hoodies--For security reasons, we must be able to see the faces of our students at all times. Students may wear hooded sweatshirts to school, but they cannot wear their hood on their head.
E. Low-riding pants--The dress code requires that pants or shorts are worn at the waistline at all times. A student's undergarments should not be visible.
F. Head coverings -- Hats, watch caps, beanies, or other head coverings may not be worn on campus except for a clearly defined religious purpose. We will confiscate hats and return them to a parent or guardian.
Clothing that contains images and/or messages of violence, drugs, death, profanity, racism, or are sexually suggestive are prohibited from campus.
We require students to correct dress code issues prior to returning to class. Repeated infractions will be treated as willful disobedience and disciplined according to the BPS Discipline Plan.

Library Resources
Your school has a wonderful room that houses information on lots of topics, with something special for everyone. That room is the library media center. In it you will find what our school board recognizes as “the center of the educational program of the school. It provides materials and services that meet academic, technical, personal and social needs of the school community”.
In meeting these needs, the media selection policy makes available a wide range of materials on varying levels of difficulty, with something to appeal to everyone. Many religious, ethnic, and cultural groups are represented in the school library, and specific criteria are used in considering items to be included. Because libraries are forums for information and ideas, books are provided for the interest and enlightenment of all students and teachers.
Many of these books are on various reading program lists, such as Sunshine State Young Readers’ Awards, Accelerated Reader, Reading Counts, and Young Adult Choices. Some of these lists also include recommended reading levels. These reading levels are determined by companies that are selling the book product, and they do not necessarily reflect the appropriate chronological age, developmental age, maturity level, or family values for all students. As with all other aspects of a student’s education, parents are encouraged to be involved in a student’s book selections. The books in the media center, whether part of a specific reading program or not, are available for the review of all patrons, but are specifically recommended for none.
Since reading is vital to success in our world, and since we know that the best readers are those who have parents that are involved in their education, we encourage parents to read and review the books your student selects. Our full collection of items is on the Melbourne High School website. Browse the collection of your school media center. You may find just the right book to share with your child.
