Early conferences are coming up on November 10th from 3:30-8:30 p.m. Sign up on EDSBY starting on November 4th for a time to meet your child’s teacher.
What is an early conference? This is a chance for students to share some of the work they are proud of and the goals they have set for themselves. It is a chance for the teacher to share the student’s successes and possible supports that are in place. Finally, it is an opportunity for you, the parent, to share a goal you have for your child with the teacher. The early conference is a great opportunity to build a positive working relationship and foundation for your child’s school success.

Operation Red Nose
Prince Albert Lions Club
Box 518
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
S6V 5R4
CANADA
Serving Prince Albert and District Since 1947
The Prince Albert Lions Club sponsors Operation Red Nose in Prince Albert. The program is an annual December campaign to reduce impaired driving. It provides a free volunteer-based, designated driver service, which caters to all motorists who are impaired or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle. It provides patrons a safe, confidential ride in their own vehicle without getting behind the wheel themselves-and it’s free. All volunteer teams-made up of an escort driver, designated driver and navigator-as well as all other volunteers, undergo a police background check and are insured for liability by our provincial sponsor the SGI. In 2017 we provided 302 rides to clients who got home safely.
The Prince Albert Lions Club has been operating the program, with the help of community volunteers for eight years. The program operates on Friday and Saturday evenings from the end of November through to New Year’s Eve. In 2018 we will begin operating on November 30th and run for 5 weekends plus New Year’s Eve. We start around 9 pm in the evening and usually run until 3 am the next morning. New Year’s tends to run a bit later due to house parties.
Although the service is free, clients provide donations, which under the provisions of the Operation Red Nose Program must be allocated to youth groups or groups that support youth in Prince Albert and area. The Prince Albert Lions Club has selected area schools as the recipients of these donations to assist with programing for students. As a result of our 2017 season, $7,200 was donated to 12 schools in the area.
Since Operation Red Nose depends on volunteers from the community to run a successful campaign, we are challenging the schools to put together teams of volunteers to assist us in delivering a successful campaign over the coming season. Escort vehicles are provided by dealerships in the city so there is no need to use your own car.
The volunteers can choose to work one night, a weekend or the whole season. We find News Year Eve is one of our busiest nights. Volunteers are provided with food, coffee and camaraderie during the evenings they work.
If you are interested in helping out with Operation Red Nose, please contact me at (306)763-7434, (306)425-7804(cell) or by email at rbraaten@sasktel.net. If you want to discuss the program I am available to come and talk to you about it.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
Vickers Choir
The Vickers Choir made a music video parody of the Backstreet Boys song “Quit Playing Games With My Heart” entitled “Quit Making U-Turns At School,” their entry into the City of Prince Albert social media contest aimed at dissuading people from making U-Turns in school zones. The choir recorded the song first as an audio project (think headphones and a microphone in the band room), and then they filmed all of the video footage to go along with it. Mrs. Lohneis did the audio/video editing and we’ve been laughing at the fun results ever since! The choir is scheduled to sing O Canada and Christmas carols at the Raider game on Wednesday, December 7th.
The Grade 8 Band will be traveling to Saskatoon on the evening of November 25th to watch the U of S Wind Orchestra concert. What a great opportunity to listen to a high level band of experienced university-age musicians!
The Grade 4 Music classes have been busy painting and assembling Northern Spirit flutes, and they will soon be learning how to play them and how to read music.
There will be Christmas concerts in person this year on December 13th and 14th at Carlton. One evening will be an elementary Christmas concert, and the other evening will feature the bands and choir. Stay tuned for more details to come!

INCLEMENT WEATHER
For the most part, we want our students to enjoy playing outdoors before school, during both recesses, and the noon hour. On rainy days, we allow students to come into the school upon their arrival and remain indoors during all breaks. In the winter, we use -30 degrees Celsius as our cut off to remain indoors. If the temperature and/or wind-chill in combination with the temperature exceed -30, then all students are permitted in the school in the morning and during break times. We do expect that all students be dressed appropriately for the weather, as there are many cold days that students are expected to be outdoors.
BOOK FAIR
The Book Fair will take place on November 7th – 10th . This year's theme is Monster Book Fair: Reading is So Much Fun You’ll Get Goosebumps.
