Mrs. Bridget Holloway
I am so excited to join the Holy Cross community this upcoming school year! I am thrilled to take on this position of literacy coach, as I have always had a huge passion for teaching literacy and phonics.
A bit about me, this will be my eighth year as an educator. I taught for five years in Denver, CO and currently coming from Visitation Catholic School here in Kansas City. I grew up Catholic, attending Nativity for grade school and Notre Dame de Sion for high school. From my time there, I learned the importance of Catholic education.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy running, yoga, and walking my dog, Chief. Speaking of Chiefs, on Sundays you can find me at all the home games!
The center of my teaching philosophy revolves around the notion that every child knows they can succeed. My priority is to help promote and encourage that feeling. I value sharing positivity with others every day. I believe in making personal connections with others and building trust to grow and achieve goals.
I look forward to meeting you all!
Sincerely,
Bridget Holloway

A Message from Mrs. Nicholson
FROM THE COUNSELOR’S CORNER
The march toward summer is on! This transition time can be overwhelming for parents and students alike.
Children are more active during the summer months and it may seem like there is an endless line of little hands and feet in your kitchen standing in front of the refrigerator. Prep in advance healthy and diverse snacks that are easy to grab and will keep everyone going. For example, a bowl of popcorn, a plate of fruit and cheese, fresh baked banana bread are all great “go to” snacks for children of all ages.
When you see pressure building with children saying “I am bored”, call for a dance break. Pump your family’s favorite tunes and start dancing. Get those bored bodies moving ,especially the reluctant ones, and shake out the druthers. The impact of a mental break and physical movement may help. It may also help to get outside and take a walk with your children; explore nature.
Rainy and dreary days can be especially challenging for children and young people during the summer months. They are “stuck inside” no pool time, can not go for a bike ride, too rainy to shoot hoops etc. Put some peaceful, classical music on and get out the board games or just a deck of cards. It may take time out of your already busy schedule to do this but after a while your children may learn to start these activities on their own.
Finally, a small celebration on the last day of school might go a long way with your children. This has been a challenging year for all of us and perhaps we all need a little “mission accomplished” reward. It can be a special dessert that night, maybe a trip out for ice cream or a family movie night.
Have a wonderful summer. You and your family will be in my daily thoughts and prayers.
