On Thursday, May 25th, Freshampton Farm to School Coordinator Bryan Jersky came to lunch at Ryan Road to do a taste test with all of the students, using ingredients directly from our school garden!

He made a School Garden Creamy Herb Dip and a School Garden Herb Vinaigrette Dip. The students tasted them with local lettuce from Little Leaf Farm and many even dipped their lunch veggies in too!

Drum roll....The vinaigrette won with 87 votes to 57 votes for the creamy dip! But there were very loyal fans for each dip! Some students thought the creamy dip was a little spicy, but "in a good way!" There were many requests for the recipe from students and grown ups, so you can find those below.

School Garden Creamy Herb Dip
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs such as: basil, parsley, dill, marjoram, or oregano
1 TB white wine vinegar
1 lemon juiced
1 garlic clove chopped

Directions: Blend in a blender and adjust ingredients to taste!

School Garden Herb Vinaigrette Dip
1.5 cups fresh herbs (coriander, thyme, basil, mint, sage...)
¾ cup olive oil
2 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
2 teaspoon dijon or wholegrain mustard
¼ -1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions: Blend in a blender and adjust ingredients to taste!

NPS Elementary Schools: Fifth Grade Art Show

Venue: JFK Middle School

May 19 - June 8, 2023

Reception: Friday May 19th from 4:30 -6:00

The fifth graders will display one or two works of art, both 2 and 3 dimensional pieces. It will be displayed in the front hallways on the walls and in glass cases. The students will be able to see their artwork when they visit JFK with their classes as well as during the reception.

This spring, our friends at High Five Books are hosting three consecutive nights of community fundraising for us at R.K. Finn Ryan Road School, from 6-7:30pm:

• Tuesday, May 30: Kindergarten & 1st Grade
• Wednesday, May 31: 2nd & 3rd Grade
• Thursday, June 1: 4th & 5th Grade

Caretakers and educators are invited to High Five Books (141 N. Main Street in Florence) to listen to stories, shop with their students' classmates, and help fill our Ryan Road shelves: High Five will donate 15% of their proceeds as store credit right back to our school!

(ANYONE is invited to shop during these evening fundraising sessions. Ryan Road students—and siblings of students—from any grade can attend any/ all sessions.)
