Parent/Guardian update 9/1/23

No school-Monday, September 4th

There will be no school on Monday, September 4th, in observation of Labor day. School will resume on Tuesday, September 5th as scheduled.

Back to School NIght

Back to school night was a success! Thank you to the parents and guardians who were able to attend on Tuesday, August 29th.

Lunch time activities

In an effort to give students more opportunities and options at lunch, on Wednesday and Thursday, all students have access to lunch time activities. Lunch activities start after the first 10 minutes of lunch and last for 30 minutes. Please talk to your students about participating!

Club Rush

On Wednesday, September 6th Clark will have Club Rush, during lunch. Club Rush is an opportunity for students to get involved and participate in a club or activity that may interest them. Clubs will meet monthly on Wednesdays or Thursdays, during lunch time. Participation in a club is voluntary.

The Charge

Tuesday, September 5th is the first day of the Charge. The Charge, is a voluntary, after school academic support. Any student is welcome to attend the Charge and students can receive help from science, math and academic block teachers. The Charge is held in the Clark library, Monday-Thursday 3:05pm-4:05pm. Take advantage of this great opportunity!

Submitting an absence online

Did you know you can use Parent Connect to submit an absence? That's right, all you need to do

Log into you your CUSD parent connect account
select your student
at the top of the page select "report an absence"
follow the directions and submit

Parent drop off and pick up

Clark is a very busy campus during drop off and pick up. Here are a few tips to help make drop off and pick up a safe and smooth process.

Plan for traffic-before and after school there is always traffic. Be patient
Arrive early-students can arrive on campus at 7:55am, with the 1st bell ringing at 8:15am on Monday, Tuesdays and Fridays and at 8:30am on Wednesdays and Thursday's
Use crosswalks-It is highly recommended when crossing 5th St., from either direction, students use one of the three staffed crosswalks. The three staffed cross walks are on 5th street near the water tower/west parking lot, in front of Mercedes Edwards Theater, and near the Clark gym
passenger loading zone-there are green passenger loading zones and short term parking in front of the Clark administration building and in the west parking lot
bus loading zones-the bus loading zone is colored red and is located in front of the Clark administration building

Please follow all traffic laws and SLOW down as you drive down 5th street.

No cost meals for ALL students

ALL students have access to breakfast (before school) and lunch each day at no charge. With no cost meals for ALL students, students will never go hungry during the school day.. Students at the intermediate level have a few more options than in elementary school. Students will have access to the cafeteria and outdoor serving windows for these meals. Student Arrival time

With the exception of students in Zero Period PE classes, students may arrive on campus no earlier than 7:55am. Please do not drop off your students earlier. The safety of your student is very important to us and Clark does not have staff on supervision until 7:55am.

For students who ride a bicycle, scooter or skateboard to school there are locking racks available near the main office and the M wing/choir room. Students are not allowed to ride bikes, skateboards or scooters on campus at any time.

For students who arrive by bus, they will arrive on campus at approximately 8:10am. On occasion, busses run late. When this occurs, teachers are notified, and students are not marked tardy.

Dress code

The dress code exists as part of our overall mission to prepare and equip students to be successful in life after high school. We believe that attention to appearance and a student’s attitude toward self and school are related. Good grooming, and appropriateness of attire are a part of learning for all students. However, we recognize that students’ mode of dress and grooming is a manifestation of their personal style and individual preference. We believe that students and parents can freely choose apparel that demonstrates individuality, as well as maintain the standards of appropriateness.

Cell phones

Students are allowed to bring cell phones, and they may use them during their unstructured time: before school begins, during the break or lunch periods, and/or after school ends at 2:59 p.m. During class time, teachers are allowed discretion with regard to phone use, and they may require that phones must be tuned off (not silenced) and put away in backpacks, not just in their pocket. Students who need to contact parents during the school day have access to a phone in the Main Office, Health Office, Learning Director’s Office, or Student Services. Other personal electronic devices (e.g. gaming consoles, speakers, AirPods, etc.) are not allowed at school.

Construction on campus

As a part of the 2020 CUSD Bond measure, Clark is under construction. Construction started this summer and will continue through the 2023-24 school year. When construction is complete Clark is receiving much needed office space and custodial office. The Mercedes Edwards Theater, which is a CUDS venue, is receiving new dressing rooms and costume storage. The safety of your student is the most important thing to us. There are safety fences and restricted areas near the middle of campus. Evacuation routes, in case of an emergency, have been adjusted to avoid the construction zone. Clark personnel will be monitoring the construction areas before school, break, lunch and after school. I encourage you to have a conversation with your student about the construction on campus and staying away from the construction zone.
