A message from your PTCC Co-Chairs
Dear GLOBE community,
The Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) is very excited for the spring semester. We would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce our co-chairs, Ana Catarina Teixeira and MJ Levine and also highlight some of the exciting events we have in store over the coming months.
Ana Catarina is currently serving her second year as PTCC co-chair. She has two children at GLOBE, one in 4th grade and the other in 5th. MJ is in her first year as a co-chair. Her two children also attend GLOBE in 3rd and 5th grade.
Annual PTCC Auction
We are thrilled to announce that our Annual PTCC Auction will take place on March 23 at the Distillery of Modern Art. All funds raised at the auction, as with all of our PTTC fundraising events, go directly to support the GLOBE school, staff, and community, so be sure to mark your calendar!
In addition to the Auction, we will also lead Exceptional Children’s Week, Earth Day, and Staff Appreciation Week and support school-led events such as Field Day, Lunar New Year, Francophonie, Black History Month and AANHPI Month.
A call for volunteers
In order to execute these events, we urgently need to fill four PTCC leadership positions and confirm leads for individual events. As per our GLOBE handbook, we ask each family to volunteer at least 10 hours per year. Without our wonderful volunteers willing to organize and lead, many of the PTCC initiatives may not take place. Below is a list of our most urgent and immediate needs:
Join our PTCC leadership team. We are seeking one Classroom PAC Co-Lead, one Global Awareness PAC Co-Lead, one Community Support PAC Co-Lead, and two Co-Leads for our Fundraising PAC. If either of these roles interest you, please email us. We work as a team, thus no one person is responsible for doing a major task. We collaborate to make it happen. Join us!
Volunteer to co-lead an event or initiative. We are looking for co-leads and/or teams to help us this Spring with the PTCC Auction Committee, Spirit Wear Co-Coordinators, Lost & Found Team, Used Uniform Team, Field Days and so much more. If you have other ideas, we would love for you to share them with us.
PTCC in the weekly newsletter
Each week the PTCC feature volunteer opportunities, fundraising updates and event information in this weekly newsletter, so please make sure you read all the way through so you don't miss out on any important updates.
Fall 2023 was a huge success!
PTCC organized and/or supported a variety of major events and initiatives last semester and we would like to convey our sincere thanks to the current PTCC Secretary, Ariel Intondi, Treasurer, Ann Dunaway Teh, as well as our PAC Co-Leads (Emily Jensen, Anya Parkes, Kimberly Williams, Charnelda Lewis, Zakiyyah Williams-Belo) and their committee leads for their time and expertise organizing and staging the events listed below.
- Orientation | Ice Cream Social | Stock the Staff lounge | Wonderful Wednesday | International Fest | Science Fest | Spirit Wear and Used Uniforms | Book fairs | Teacher and Staff Grants | Spirit Nights | Royalty programs | Volunteer Coordination.
PTCC also supported school-led initiatives such as Hispanic Heritage Month and Peace Week, and contributed to GLOBE Trot, a fundraiser organized by the Board of Directors.
We truly couldn’t have accomplished it all without our volunteers. Thank you so much, let’s make the second half of the school year just as amazing!
Sincerely,
Ana Catarina Teixeira and MJ Levine

Visitors for lunch with your child
If you are visiting school to eat lunch with your child, please report to the front office where the receptionist will ask for the name of the child you are meeting with, and your ID. If you are having a guest, such as a grandparent or aunt come to visit and they are not on the approved pick up list, please send an email to the front office to let them know they will be coming.
Faculty and staff receive CPR training and certification
On their first day back after winter break, as well as preparing for the second semester, faculty and staff from both campuses received CPR training and certification.
Teachers and administrators attend Chicago language convention
Before the holidays, GLOBE middle school language teachers and administrators attended the American Council on Teaching Foreign Language (ACTFL) Convention in Chicago, IL.
Teachers and administrators had the opportunity to attend educational sessions and participate in hands-on learning environments that provided them with tangible resources and ready-to-use techniques that will help build content knowledge and learn new strategies. They were exposed to the timeliest topics, the latest research, and the most current trends in language education today.
Lower Campus
We're off to a great start to the second semester here at Lower Campus. The next Community Circle will be held on January 26, and the Lunar New Year assembly on Friday, February 2, from 8:45am.
Upper Campus
6th grade ELA students take part in "sustainability" activity

High School Transition Information Evening
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this event during the final week of the first semester. A recording of the evening's presentation can be viewed here. Current high school transition resources are available here.
Finding Ollie
The latest two episodes are available here: episode 6 | episode 7. The Finding Ollie series is produced by students in Mr Brantley's 8th grade Leadership and Communication class. As the episodes unfold, all of Upper Campus' incredible students will get a chance to share their light.
Connections at UC
We recently started a Team Handball unit and students are loving it!
Athletics - it's time to register for spring sports
Registration for spring sports is now open. Download our information flyer and register for tryouts here. Spring sports include boys volleyball, flag football, girls soccer, tennis and new for 2024, golf!
New athletics web portal on the way
We have been busy building a Teamsnap web portal for GLOBE Athletics. This will provide a digital platform on which to bring GLOBE athletics 'under one umbrella', and include information about our sports programs, coaches, events and fundraising, whilst adding registration to our current Teamsnap scheduling and messaging capabilities. There will be a link from our main GLOBE website and the targeted launch day is this Friday, so all being well, watch this space.
Student returns from winter national tennis championships
Violet Hall represented GLOBE in the girls’ 12U division of the USTA National Championships in San Antonio over the winter break. She had a great time, played extremely well and even notched a win! This was her first L1 tournament and we are so proud of her efforts and progress.
Cheerleading
During the winter break, GLOBE cheer squad had a team bonding event. The team had lots of fun ice skating and eating pizza!
Link to Weekly Athletic Calendar
We use TeamSnap to communicate practice schedules, game schedules and real time information to parents should a practice/game need to be canceled.

A thank you to Tucker Brewing
We’d like to thank Tucker Brewing for their Spirit Night donation to GLOBE PTCC in December. Please consider visiting them and all our other Spirit Night hosts as a way to show our ongoing support and appreciation for their generosity.
“Volunteer of the Month” Carpool Winners!
Congratulations to our volunteers of the month, Hannah Martin and Heather Horne. We hope you enjoy using the “Volunteer of the Month” carpool flag to skip the line this month of January. Special shout-out to the extraordinary Florence Cannon for her volunteerism as well. Be sure to log your volunteer hours for a chance to win next month!
Lost and Found: Please label your items!
Parent volunteers return labeled items to the owner's classroom. If your items are not labeled, they may never make it back home. Please take a moment to find a labeling solution that will work for you. Here are some ideas to get you started: Avery No-Iron Kids Clothing Labels, Sharpie Fabric Marker, and Mabel's Labels (customizable labels and stamps, dishwasher and laundry safe. Enter "The GLOBE Academy" in the "support a fundraiser" field, and they'll donate 20% back to GLOBE!).
Volunteer hours can help GLOBE receive grants
Did you know that when you volunteer, it can help GLOBE receive grants? Some donors want to know how involved the community is. We can show them that parents are invested in the school by sharing the volunteer hours we have tracked. So please remember to log your hours here. When you log your time, you'll also be entered in our drawing for a volunteer-of-the-month carpool flag. As a reminder, each family is requested to volunteer ten hours each year. To see current volunteer opportunities, click here. Thank you for volunteering at GLOBE.
Shopping can help GLOBE!
Did you know when you shop at places like Publix, Kroger, and OfficeMax/Office Depot, they will donate to GLOBE PTCC? To find out how to easily set this up, click here. Every penny counts!
