campus security
Campus security is available to help you if you need help. They also collect lost items. If you lose something important, such as your cell phone, go ask the security guards if someone turned it in.
a career counselor
A career counselor can help you decide what a good path for you will be. You can find the career counselors in A109. Stop by an make an appointment. They are very helpful.
a clinic
You can find the health clinic in room A-3 of the Longueuil campus. The clinic offers consultations with a family doctor, health checks, blood tests and other services by appointment.
a computer lab
There are many computer labs around the college. If there is no class in the lab, you can go there to do your work.
a hangar
a laboratory
There are many different types of labs. A lab is any place where students practice their skills.
a machine shop
Machine shops are a very specific kind of lab. They can be dangerous if you're not careful.
a main entrance
There are many entrances to the college. If someone talks about the main entrance, they are referring to the entrance at 945 chemin de Chambly.
a teacher's office
Every teacher has an office. His or her schedule is posted on the door. Teachers often work in their offices and wait for students to come by to get help. If you need help, go to you teacher's office during office hours. Don't be shy.
a parking lot
You can buy a parking pass to park in the parking lot or you can pay per visit. If you drive to school a lot, it is cheaper to buy a parking pass for the semester.
reception
A reception desk or a welcome desk is where someone welcomes you and helps you find what you need. There is a reception desk at the main entrance of the college.
a tutoring center
There is an English tutoring center available at the Longueuil Campus There are tutors who are available to help you for free! The tutoring center is located in E0012 in the basement.
a workshop
A workshop is a room or building where things are made or repaired using machines and/or tools.
conversation workshops
There is another type of workshop too: a meeting of people to discuss and practice a subject or activity. There are English language assistants who offer conversation workshops in D0028.
garbage
The garbage bins at the college are next to the recycling and compost bins. Only throw items in the garbage after you have composted and recycled first. It takes a few extra minutes, but it helps our planet.

an agenda
Last year, I wrote my assignments in my agenda. Every time I did one, I made sure to cross it out so I knew I was done.
an average
The R-score only exists in Quebec. In other provinces and countries, a GPA (grade point average) is used.
a backpack
He carried his backpack to school in high school. He wore it every day. In college, he uses his locker more.
an assignment
The teacher corrected the assignment in red pen. She gave me a lot of feedback which helped me learn from my mistakes.
a binder
It is important to keep a well-organized binder.
a calculator
I needed a scientific calculator for my math class last year. It was expensive, but this year, I am using it for chemistry class.
a clock
There aren't many clocks at school these days. Most people use their cell phones to tell time.
coloured pencils
I loved using colored pencils to do my art when I was in secondary school. Maybe I should take my notes using colored pencils to make taking notes more interesting.
a compass
He used the compass in math class to draw concentric circles.
a computer
There are computer labs on almost every floor of the college.
a desk
She wiped down each desk in the classroom at the end of the day to make sure they were ready for the next morning.

We used glue sticks to make the invitations to my son's birthday party. Glue is useful for a variety of crafts and projects.
a grade
There is no grade 12 in Quebec. Secondary 5 is the equivalent of eleventh grade in other provinces.
a highlighter
In my first English class, when I took notes, I found that it helped me to use highlighters to keep my notes organized.
a hole punch
To keep my binder organized last semester, I used a hole punch when the teacher gave us worksheets without holes. This helped to keep me organized.
lockers
We had lockers in high school too. I thought lockers were only for high school, but we use lockers at the college too.

Since loose-leaf paper already has holes, you don't need to use a hole punch.
a magnifying glass
I thought only detectives used magnifying glasses, but scientists use them too!
a map
There is a map of Canada's provinces and territories in the tutoring center.
a mark
If you study, you will probably earn a good mark. If you didn't get a good mark, you might want to get a tutor from the Centre d'aide en langues to help you. It's free!
a (dry-erase) marker
Last session, the teacher accidentally used a Sharpie instead of a dry-erase marker on the white board. He had to clean it with a special cleaner because it wouldn't erase. Oops!
office hours
If you need help, go see your teacher during office hours. Teachers love when students come for help. It shows that they want to learn.
paint
Some of the walls in the college could use some new paint.
paper clips
You can use paperclips to hand in your work, but most teachers prefer that you use a stapler.
a pencil case
Sarah-Ann always comes to class well prepared. She has everything she needs to take good notes in her pencil case.
a pencil sharpener
If you use a pencil for an exam, always have a pencil sharpener in your pencil case in case your pencil breaks!
a protractor
A protractor tells you how many degrees an angle has.
push pins
You can use push pins to hang up a notice on the school's bulletin boards. There are bulletin boards for books for sale, rooms to rent and clubs to join.
rubber bands
Do you use a lot of rubber bands? I don't use many.
a ruler
The little girl measured her plant with a ruler in her 2nd grade science class. The plant is 4 cm tall.
a schedule
In the past, tutors have recommended that students write time to study and do homework on their schedules to help them stay organized.
a test tube
In our nursing course last year, we did urine tests by measuring the sugar in each test tube. Test tubes are made of glass.
thumbtacks
He dropped a thumbtack on the floor when he added an announcement to the bulletin board. Unfortunately, he only found it when he stepped on it. Ouch!
a white board
My teacher told us that when she was in college, they didn't have white boards. They had blackboards and had to use chalk.
a bulletin board
She found a room to rent near the college. It was advertised on the bulletin board in the student union. She shares the rent with another student. It is cheaper to share an apartment and to split the utilities.
