Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to our Week 9 newsletter.
Congratulations
Last week was an eventful week of sporting achievements. 14 of our amazing athletes represented JEPS at our Sydney West Swimming Carnival. Participating at Zone level is a major achievement. I am so very proud of our students!
I'd also like to acknowledge the basketball achievements of Mataius in Year 6. Outside of school, he has been selected in the U13 Basketball NSW Talented Athlete Program. Last week, he competed at the Sydney West Basketball trials with his team winning the Zone Championship. I very proud to announce that through this competition, he was selected to be part of the Sydney West Basketball Team to compete at the State Basketball Championships in Gosford from Tuesday 27th April - Thursday 29th April. On behalf of our school community, I wish him all the very best!
Cuppa with the Principal
My vision for JEPS is that we work together to support the learning and wellbeing of our students, your children. I am excited to announce that we are launching our new initiative Cuppa with the Principal in Weeks 5 and 10 of each term. This is an opportunity for us to come together, connect as a school community over some delicious food and for you to form friendships with other parents at our school. It is also an opportunity to ask me any questions that you may have.
Our first Cuppa with the Principal will be held next Tuesday 30th March at 2:00 pm in our hall. Toddlers are welcome. Please bring some toys/books to keep them entertained. You are more than welcome to email me your questions beforehand:

Our 2021-2024 School Improvement Plan
Last week at our P&C Meeting, I shared our School Improvement Plan for the next 4 years. Our School Improvement Plan outlines the key initiatives that we will be implementing in order to meet our improvement measures. Please find it attached below:
School Assemblies
As of Term 2, you are welcome to attend our school assemblies.
- K-2 assemblies will be held on Wednesday afternoons at 2:15 pm odd weeks.
- 3-6 assemblies will be held on Tuesday afternoons at 2:15 pm even weeks.
Before and After School Care at JEPS
At our P&C meeting, I communicated that in response to a parent questionnaire last year, the Department of Education identified a growing need in our school community for additional before and after school care provisions. The tender process has been completed. In the forthcoming weeks, the successful company will be advertising their services. They will be using the two vacant classrooms next to the back gate. I am hoping that they will commence operations early next term.
NAPLAN Online 2021
The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between the 11th and 21st May 2021. In preparation for NAPLAN online, our school will also be participating in practice tests on the 25th March. The practice test is a trial run and a key preparation activity for NAPLAN online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability and the test will not be marked.
Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site to familarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

Further information can be found in the attached brochure for parents and carers.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind regards,
Yvonne Quinlan
Spotlight on Learning
Harmony Week
Last week, our students celebrated Harmony Week. If you missed seeing the video on our Facebook page, please find it attached below.I am really proud of the effort that our students and teachers put in to what was a memorable day. I can't wait to see our special rocks that our students designed being made into our special harmony rock path.
Greening Australia donated 200 native trees and shrubs to our school. Our Year 5 students, were provided with the opportunity to connect with nature and create greener, cooler places that we all will be able to enjoy whilst providing new habitats for animals to thrive.
A special thank you to the Year 5 teachers and students for supporting this great initiative and for continuing to care for our new plants.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Our PBL focus this fortnight is Keeping Safe Before School. Our teachers will be explicitly teaching our students how to safely use our school crossing. They will also be discussing how to safely travel to school via a scooter and/or bike. You may like to reinforce these messages at home.
Please find attached our PBL Procedures for your reference.
Student Success
We love celebrating and recognising the achievements of our students outside of school. We are very proud of Gabby who is in Year 6. Gabby is a talented artist who has been working extremely hard at school and at home developing her skills. I am sure that you'll agree with me that Gabby's artwork is impressive and could be viewed in a gallery. Congratulations Gabby! We can't wait to see more of your work in the future.
P&C News
We'd like to thank you for your support of Snow Cone Friday. We'd also like to thank those of you who were able to come and support the serving of the snow cones. In total, we raised an impressive $3,512. We look forward to the return of Snow Cone Friday in Term 4!
P&C School Disco
Just a reminder that our school disco is next Thursday 1st April. Payment for this exciting end-of-term event is due this week. Glow sticks will be available next Thursday morning before school for $2. If you require another permission note, please find it attached in the note section of our newsletter.
P&C Meeting
Please find attached our minutes from our P&C meeting that was held on the 10th of March. We look forward to our next P&C meeting on Wednesday 28th April at 6:30 pm.
School Banking
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way to help teach your child about money. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. For more information about contribution payments, visit www.commbank.com.au/sbinfo .
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
Our School Banking day is Wednesday.
