Who will save a wretch like me? Perhaps you have asked the same question about yourself. We each know the wretchedness of our own hearts, so it may be easy to believe the lie of the enemy that there is no hope when we struggle. We may have been raised with a legalistic mindset that God is angry and disappointed when we struggle. The truth is that when we are walking in line with the Spirit, there is no condemnation. When our flesh and spirit are at war and the flesh wins, the Holy Spirit lovingly lifts us from where we have fallen. Sound too good to be true? Read Romans 7-8.

You may have noticed the cool new basket in the vestibule. That is for the items that you will bring each month. For September, please bring a ball or a doll - just make sure that it will fit into a shoebox.

September Focus

The focus for this month is Giving of Yourself. Some suggestions for this month are: visit someone who can't out of the house, bake a treat for a new neighbor, do yardwork for someone, volunteer at the soup kitchen.

FSM

Almost a year has passed since we had a church planning meeting! First Sunday Meal in October will be devoted to another time of planning. We will discuss what went well, what could be improved, and what we might like to do next year. Make plans to attend.

Happy Labor Day!

I hope that each of you will be able to spend time with family or friends, have a cookout, or simply enjoy a day off. "The origins of Labor Day date back to the late 19th century, when activists first sought to establish a day that would pay tribute to workers. The first U.S. Labor Day celebration took place in New York City on Sept. 5, 1882" I used to just look forward to this day as the first break after a month of school!


Labor Day should also be a day for believers to rejoice. I Corinthians 15:58 tells us, "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." Paul said this to the church at Corinth, but it also applies to all believers. God will not forget you. Anything that you have done/are doing for Him is on record. The world may never know the effort that you make, the tears that you cry, or the time that you devote, but God does.


When your labors have worn you out, remember that Jesus invited those of us who were weary to come to Him. That invitation stands today - Labor Day - and any other day when it feels like too much. This life is not for the lazy or the faint of heart. But when we are weak, we are invited to take a labor day. This year, in the midst of lake time or barbeques or whatever you may be doing, be encouraged in the Lord. He sees you.
