1•5•10 Community Newsletter School Year 19: Issue 2
What an ELITE week!
Our first week is in the books and it was an ELITE week!
It didn't take very long to get right back in the swing of things. Our classrooms this week were full of learning about each other and learning about our schoolhouse. Our learning spaces look the BEST they ever have and our scholars are getting adjusted to the hallways, the schedules, and the expectations that come along with being a middle school scholar!
As promised, grade levels are to be communicating with you via remind, email, and/or twitter on what is happening in their classrooms. This is called our "Peek of the Week" and each grade level has one. You can also find them all listed under "Weekly Updates" on our web page.
After our first week and our first run of the Reading Inventory, we do have some schedule changes to make. If your child has a schedule change, it will be due to putting him/her into an ELA class that is most apporpriate for his/her learning style and needs. If you have questions about this, please call me! I am happy to sit down and discuss all the factors that go into creating the perfect schedule for a scholar to grow achievement.
Please make sure you have signed and returned any forms from open house. We need our Title One Parent Compact forms turned in, so please remember to sign and send those back!
We are ready for an ELITE week two! As always, please stop in and see what the ExExExCitement is all about at Bryan County Middle School!

#ReadersAreLeaders (The 5) WIN!
This year, our primary focus at BCMS is creating and sustaining a culture of readers. We are working hard to create a school wide community where students have equal access and opportunity to books, activities, adult models of readers, and reinforcement of the value of reading, regardless of the teacher.
We are ExExExCited to offer WIN time as a 30 minute dedicated time to free read in our day. During this time, our scholars and adults will be reading for lesiure / pleasure. Every teacher will be creating a WIN environment that works for them and supports the love of reading. Help us sustain this environment by:
- Encouraging reading at home
- Modeling reading together
- Helping your child pick out a book they are interested in!
- Talking to your child about how important reading is and how it is a lifelong skill
We have already seen great success this week during WIN and we know that working together: School, Community, Home, our scholars will be better readers in May then they are today!

This year, as part of our PBIS model, we are working on a new skill:
E+R=O
I hope you have noticed the posters and visual reminders around our school. E+R=O is a simple skill. The E stands for the event (what happend), the R stands for how your resonded (your action) and the O stands for the Outcome (what did you get). We are helping our scholars to think about E+R=O in every situation. Our goal is to help our scholars begin to see and understand that the better their R is, the better thier O will be!
PLEASE sign up to use Powerschool. PowerSchool is our grading and infomation communication system. Sign up is EASY! Stop by the front office and we will get you signed up and get you a log in. You can use it on your phone and from an app! Never wonder again about missing work, upcoming work, or grades! It's all at your fingertips in Powerschool!
