The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
February 2, 2024
Dear Families,
This has been such a fun week! There was reading happening EVERYWHERE! (I'm not kidding!)
Thank you to everyone for coming to last night's READING NIGHT! I hope you and your young readers enjoyed our Guest Readers: Dillon T. Pickle, Ms. Gilkey, Science Erin, Principal Pam, and authors Michelle Sumovich and Rose Collins. So many good books to share and giveaways on top of that! Thank you to our PTA members Melissa Federspiel, Iniray Luper, Lindsay Lopez, for organizing this special event!
Speaking of reading....today's Llewellyn Reads was so incredibly fun! Students lined the hallways, some with their reading buddies, and arm loads of books and read for 30 minutes. The smiles, giggles, and snacking on popcorn made this an especially wonderful community event!
Raffle Winners were announced today. Our Principal for a Day will be Deacon Bumgarner (Prelosky) and the Librarian for a Day will be Edi Cass (Schneider).
Check out the Readometer...We've reached our school goal of 100,000 minutes and then some!
Congratulations and thank you for all you did to support this wonderful event!
(Reminder) Please look for your child's report card to come home with them on Monday, February 5th.
Warmly,
Principal Pam

PTA Happenings
Last weekend was definitely a much needed break from the rain! Were you able to get outside into the sunshine? Here’s hoping these faux spring days come around again soon.
The Llewellyn Readathon is still going and we have already surpassed over 70,000 minutes read as a school!!! We are also very close to meeting our fundraising goal of $20,000 as well. We are very excited about how much reading our students have been doing both at home and at school. Thank you families for all your support for your students and our Llewellyn community in helping us to make this new fundraiser a huge success. Keep logging your minutes until Sunday, February 4! Let’s read Llewellyn!
Small Tall Ball is coming up next Friday, February 9! We have a DJ playing our favorite tunes and a fun photo booth to capture those fun outfits and smiling faces. Volunteer sign ups have been posted on Konstella. We need volunteers starting after school and throughout the event. We also need food and drink donations for our snack stations so our students can recharge and dance the night away. These can be dropped off before the event and up until dance time. Remember to purchase your family tickets on Konstella before next Friday so you can join the party!
Our next PTA meeting will be February 20 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. Our very own Llewellyn parent, Lahela Isaacson, will be our guest speaker. Lahela is a therapist that works with children ages 3-10 and specializes in autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing challenges, emotional regulation, developmental challenges, parent coaching and family/dyadic therapy. Her presentation, "Screening Out Disconnection", will explain how we can connect with our students with or without screens. We will also have our very own Mason beekeeper, Debbie Conrad, coming to discuss what our students will be learning about Mason bees this spring.

Immunization Exclusion Day is Coming!
PPS is required to ensure that all students are up to date on all school-required immunizations, or have a signed medical exemption letter signed by a licensed physician or a non-medical exemption, by Wednesday, February 21, 2024 (“Exclusion Day”). Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon.
On February 7th, the Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD) will mail a notification letter to all students who are due to receive one or more required vaccinations or who do not have a record of immunization. Students who do not have all their school-required vaccines or a qualifying exemption by Exclusion Day will not be allowed to attend school until their immunizations are up-to-date.
What to do if you get a letter
Call your school if you have already provided your child’s immunization record to the school and verify whether the school has a copy on file.
If your student needs updated vaccinations, get your child immunized right away. You can schedule an appointment with your child’s regular health care provider, or with:
One of the MCHD Student Health Centers. Benson High School students can call the Benson Wellness Center (OHSU).
The MCHD Immunization Clinic at 619 NW 6th Avenue, Room 150, Portland, OR. This Clinic occurs every Tuesday and Thursday 9am - 4pm, and Friday 10am - 5pm. Call 503-988-4724 for an appointment.
Bring to your child’s appointment the Certificate of Immunization Status Form that was included with the letter you received from MCHD. This Form will let the provider know what vaccinations your student still needs. If you misplace the CIS Form you received in the mail, you can request another copy from your child’s school).
Once your student has received their required vaccines, sign the completed immunization form and turn it in to your child’s school.
Thank you for keeping your student and their classmates safe, in school, and ready to learn!
PPS decarbonization roadmap: community input/listening sessions
PPS is seeking input from students, teachers, school staff, and community members about how to build a long-range plan to lower carbon emissions in our district. The question we want help answering is: “How can PPS most effectively implement GHG emissions reduction measures to give us the best chance of meeting our emissions goals, given financial, industry, and facility constraints, while considering historic inequities in the distribution of resources across PPS?” See dates and details for more information and how to provide input.
