Positivity Project-Integrity
Click HERE for this week's Character Card focused on Integrity!
This week our students will be learning about the character trait of Integrity!
WHAT DOES INTEGRITY MEAN?
Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody's watching. People with integrity practice what they preach and maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values. They have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs. Integrity is closely aligned with the terms of honesty and authenticity. People with integrity tell the truth and have alignment in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
"Whoever is careless about the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters."--Albert Einstein
Volunteers
Volunteers are welcome at HSES! If you plan to volunteer, you must be approved using the guidelines below. Now is a great opportunity to come into the school and register! If you have any additional questions, please contact the front office.
- All new volunteer applicants must register and have an approved criminal record check prior to engaging in volunteer work.
- All continuing volunteers approved for the 2019-2020 school year MUST reactivate as a volunteer no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 31, 2019. Reactivating volunteers may go to any WCPSS work site where they can register through www.wcpss.net by selecting the Community tab, and then selecting Volunteer Registration. Current volunteers, who provide a valid email address, will receive an email 15 days and 30 days prior to the expiration of their volunteer status reminding them to reactivate.
- Guests: Visitors who are never left alone with students are considered guests. They do not need background checks. Typical examples would include speakers, presenters and community members/parents attending a school event.
- Volunteers: Visitors who may be alone with students at any point do require background checks. There are no "levels" of volunteer status. You are either a volunteer who may be alone with students or you aren't. Typical examples range from a community volunteer who reads with a child to an overnight chaperone, as well as field day workers, testing proctors, and volunteer coaches. The same background check is done for every type of volunteer.

Here Comes the Bus App
Bus Routes for the 19-20 school year will be posted to the website on June 21, 2019. For 2019-20, the Here Comes the Bus app will be available to Year-Round families on Friday, July 5. Existing app users will need to add students back but should not need to reinstall the app.
Arrival and Dismissal FAQ's:
If I am late coming to school, can I just walk in?
- All parents need to come inside with their student and sign them in at the front office on the computer. If arriving after 12:35 p.m., students will be counted absent for the entire day.
- Parents should encourage independence in their child. Let your child learn to be an independent student by walking to class every day on their own. Exception: During the first week of school, parents may come and walk their child to the classroom. After the first week, we ask that students walk independently. Staff will be available to always assist with this process.
- Come to the main office and bring your government issued ID. Provide the front office your child's name. Office staff will call for your child via an intercom phone. Please arrive before 3:30 to ensure we are able to get your child in a timely manner. If you sign your child out after 12:35 pm, they will be counted as present on a regular school day. On Early release days for the district, they must be in school until 11:30 to be counted as present and on Saturday school they have to be in school until 11:20.
- Carpool students are dismissed from the classrooms. Please make sure students know their carpool numbers.
- Bus/Van riders wait in the classroom and they watch the screen for their bus number/van name.
- Walkers are dismissed through the Media Center from their classrooms.
- If you find that you need to change your child's method of travel to reach home, write a note to the teacher. Email communication is not a reliable method of reaching your child's teacher during the school day as they are teaching students and may not receive it before dismissal.
- Please call the front office at (919) 577-2660 ext: 0 to change your child's primary mode of transportation for the day. This is displayed on a screen at the end of the day titled, "Transportation Changes."
- The office will contact the parent concerning transportation home.
- It is important that all contact information is complete and kept up-to-date.
- WCPSS Transportation policy requires that every student be registered to a bus and bus stop in order to receive bus transportation service. Please arrange playdates after school hours.
