Notes from the Nurse

Nurse Regan will be having medication drop off times on the following days/times:

August 29- Medication Drop Off (2:00 pm-4:00 pm)
August 30- Medication Drop Off (7:30 am-4:00 pm)

Kindergarten Orientation

On August 30th, kindergartners and families will have their orientation where they will meet the teacher, visit the classroom and receive important information about the start of school. We will be holding two sessions at 9:15 and 10:15. Your session was mailed out in the summer placement packet in early July. If you aren't sure when your session is please contact Mrs. Murphy at murphys@chelmsford.k12.ma.us.

Arrival/Dismissal and Family Car Pick Up numbers

All students will be issued pick up numbers for our dismissal procedure. Even if your student will be taking the bus, you will still receive a number. For families needing numbers for the first week of school, they will be available in the Byam office on Thursday and Friday next week from 9:00-2:00 pm.

Kindergarten families can also receive their numbers during their orientation time on Tuesday August 30th.

Below is a brief video outlining our pick up and drop off procedures. Although it is a video from Aug 2021, all information is the same for this 2022-2023 school year. There is also a permanent pick up form below to fill out and return to to school. If you are unable to print this form out we will be sending home a hard copy as well. (Please note that our side gates don't open until 3:00 pm to stage vehicles for dismissal).

Pick Up Number

If you are picking up your child on Tuesday, you will need to obtain your Byam pick up number. The office will be giving out the remaining numbers from 9:00 am-12:00 pm on Monday, August 29.

Buses

All students who will be riding the bus need to register with the transportation department even if you are beyond the two-mile free busing zone. Information for registering can be found at https://chelmsfordschools.org/departments/transportation/

CPS School Nutrition

School Supplies

Our superintendent, Dr. Lang, has once again purchased individual school supplies for students. In a typcial school year, families would receive a list of supplies needed for class, to bring for the school year. During last school year, the district school supply purchase was well received by families and Dr. Lang has continued this school supply support for the upcoming school year. These supplies will not stay at home, supplies will either stay in your child's classroom or stay in their backpack.

Attendance

Students being present to school is vital to student socialization and academic progress. Outside of illnesses and medical appointments, we at Chelmsford Public Schools discourages as little travel as possible during the school weeks.

If your family's schedule required your child to miss school days please contact our clear Stella Murphy either prior to or the day of their absence. This helps decrease the number of outgoing calls our school office needs to do to inquire about student absences.

Seeking Substitutes!

Come on Board! We are seeking additional building substitutes for both teaching and support to grow our Byam School substitute pool. Minimum of one day to maximum of four days a week, dependent on substitute preference. If interested in hearing more information about this opportunity please have interested person email Betsy Dolan at dolane@chelmsford.k12.ma.us to discuss further. Training and support with technology, sub plans, etc. is provided on site.
