Greetings, BHS Families! This is Week #16 of Semester 2, and this is the FINAL WEEK FOR SENIORS! We have had several celebrations over the last couple weeks to celebrate and recognize our Class of 2022: College (postsecondary) Signing Day, Scholarship Night, and Friday's Senior Awards ceremony, where we officially honored our TOP TEN Academic Achievers!

As a recap:

• College Signing Day (5/06) - this is when Seniors announced their postsecondary plans, including college/university, trade school, and certifiable internships.
• Scholarship Night (5/11)- for this event, roughly 40 students announced their scholarships and were presented with additional scholarships. As of Wednesday evening, the total for BHS recorded scholarship total was over $800,000! This number continues to grow as more scholarships are coming in for our seniors.
• Senior Awards Ceremony (5/13) - this celebration occurred during the school day and specific seniors were awarded certificates from various departments, such as the Art Department, Science Department, Service Awards, etc.

We wish ALL of our seniors a great end of this school week - the end of their K-12 Careers - and we encourage them to enjoy these last days! We the administration and staff at Belleville High school consider ourselves blessed to have had the privilege to spend our time with them, and to launch them into their bright futures. Even though they're leaving us behind, BHS will always be part of their story: once a Tiger, ALWAYS a Tiger.

The class of 2022 may decorate their graduation cap with an administrator-approved design.

The Senior’s final walk through the school will be Thursday, May 19, 2022, during Tiger Time. Seniors will report to the Main Auditorium by 9:15 AM. Thursday is cap and gown day and students may wear their cap and gown during 1st and 2nd hours. Students will not be permitted to enter the building after Senior Walk (with the exception of the Main Auditorium Area to gather belongings/turn in Chromebook).

While parents will not be coming into the building for this event, we ask that parents/guardians/families report to the BHS Tiger Stadium (at roughly 9:45am) to see their student (weather permitting). Senior Walk will conclude in the BHS Tiger Stadium with a walk along the track!

PROTOCOL REMINDERS:

STUDENT PARKING - TOWING BEGINS THIS WEEK!

Student drivers may only park in the Student Parking Lot. Lately, student vehicles have overwhelmed the staff parking lot. Beginning this week, unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owners expense (approx $200)!

• The Tiger Parent and Senior Parent meeting will be in person on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center at Belleville High School. At this meeting we will be discussing and planning upcoming events and activities for the remainder of the school year.

• Parent volunteers from ALL GRADES are needed to help out at the Class of 2022 Senior Party on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Here is the link to the google form to sign up. Your help is greatly appreciated.
  

• The Class of 2022 is looking for donations for the Senior Party on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Please consider donating item(s) for this one last event for the seniors before graduation. Here is the link to the SignUp Genius. Thank you for supporting our Class of 2022 Seniors!
  

• If you were unable to pick up your cap and gown last week, you can pick it up on Monday, May 16, 2022 after school from 2:00 pm till 3:00 pm. At this time you may also pick up the Spring Senior shirts with the names on the back (pre-ordered/paid), Senior yard signs (pre-ordered/paid) and Yearbooks. You must also pay any fines.
  

• Belleville High School Proud Parent and Proud Grandparent shirts of a BHS graduate are available for purchase on PaySchools. Here is the link to the form to place an order and directions on how to make a payment.
  

• Senior Class of 2022 Prom will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. till 11:00 p.m. at Laurel Manor in Livonia, Michigan. STUDENTS AND THEIR GUEST WILL NEED TO HAVE AN ID TO ENTER THE SENIOR PROM.
  

• Senior Party will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at High Velocity beginning at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 and are available NOW through PaySchools until May 18, 2022. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO HAVE AN ID TO ENTER THE SENIOR PARTY.

WELLNESS CORNER: DON’T BE AFRAID TO MOVE FORWARD

Transitioning from high school brings about momentous changes. Days, once structured by the sound of bells signaling movement to the next class, will end. You will cross over an invisible line into adulthood, but may not feel like an adult, just yet.

You have spent 18 years learning, listening, trying, failing, growing, and following. Soon, you may be placed in situations where your normal go-to person is not by your side. Who will you turn to? At times it may seem as if you are alone in this big world, but you are not. John Donne, an English poet wrote, “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main...”

You are going to be a piece of a new continent. Whether that continent is a college, university, training center or construction site...you have become a part of a new organization or group. It's understandable that there may be some nervousness or fear, but it doesn't have to be debilitating. You are not alone on an island, you are surrounded by opportunities to connect with others for support, social development, skill development, and so much more.

Here are some tips for entering your next chapter, with calm, confidence, and ease:

1. Check emails often and respond in a timely manner. Institutions are still using email correspondence as their primary way to communicate. Whether it's from an employer or instructor, you may miss opportunities which can even be costly. Get into the habit of reading your emails at the same time, everyday.
2. Sign up for any digital newsletters and follow the organization on social media. Activities, meetings, events, and other opportunities to meet new people are usually posted online. Being aware of events will offer opportunities to learn more about the organization and connect with others with similar interests and goals.
3. Get familiar with resources. New employees may review the employee handbook and talk with human resources about staff supports and benefits. New students, could visit the campus welcome center, financial aid office, admissions office, or career center. An answer is a phone call, step, or email away. Student services can also prove beneficial. Some postsecondary institutions offer tutoring, proofreading, counseling, computer access, exercise space, printing and additional services for students.
   
4. Use a planner/planning calendar early and often. Staying organized is essential as you embark on adulthood. Writing down deadlines, creating a daily to-do list, and completing those tasks could help reduce anxiety and help improve confidence in a new setting.
5. Stay Connected with Supportive Family and Friends. Staying connected with family and friends can provide a source of support during adjustments. They will enjoy learning about new adventures and be able to offer a listening ear and advice, when needed.

FINANCIAL AID NEWS FOR JUNIORS

CREATE AN FSA ID – Your FSA ID acts as a username and password for your financial aid application. Separate FSA IDs are required for parents/guardians and students. Go here to create your FSA ID and store it in a safe place.

Curious about how much financial aid assistance your student could be eligible for? Use the Federal Student Aid Estimator to estimate your student's financial aid.

ADD OCTOBER 1st to your calendar. This is the date that the FAFSA 2023-2024 application will become available. Class of 2023 graduates should complete the FAFSA application for the year they'll first be enrolled in college or trade school.

GET STARTED ON THE FAFSA. This page includes the 'How to Fill Out the FAFSA Form' video and 'Gathering the Documents Needed to Apply' list. A perfect resource to assist you to begin the FAFSA.

EXPLORE SCHOLARSHIPS – Scholarship awards often run in cycles and occur annually. Read your school's local scholarship board or website for annual scholarships regularly. Also, check out MI Student Aid Scholarship Best Practices for more information.

SEMCA Michigan Works! offers virtual employability workshops

for all Wayne County Residents. These events are live and free to

the public. Some workshop topics include: Success in the

workplace, Resume Writing 101, Time Management, Financial

Literacy, Organizational Skills, Cover Letter Writing, and so
