How to Make Fake Snow for Pretend Play
Materials:
- Baking Soda
- White Hair Conditioner
- Large Bowl
Tools:
- Large spoon or spatula for mixing
1) In a large bowl mix 2 1/2 cups of baking soda with 1/2 a cup of white hair conditioner.
2) Stir mixture in large bowl until ingredients are well combined.
3) Enjoy, hours of sensory play!
Tip: You can add more baking soda if you wish to make your “snow” less wet if you’d like. If you need to make a larger batch of snow you can easily multiply this recipe.
How to Save Fake Snow:
After making the fake snow, it can be packaged in a zip lock bag and stored in a cool area for up to five days.
Note: Children should be supervised by an adult while playing with the pretend snow. Small children may be tempted to put the snow in their mouths or rub their eyes.
Yikes! Has your kid asked if Santa is real?!
IS SANTA REAL, MOMMY OR DADDY?
ACTIVITIES FOR OLDER KIDS
Try this game...it's so fun!
All you need are paper plates and pens for each player.
The host tells the players to put their paper plate on their head.
Then the host will give a series of instructions for the players to draw on their paper plates (that are on their heads) without looking.
Here are the instructions:
1. Draw a line for a floor.
2. Draw a Christmas Tree. Add decorations if you feel so inclined.
3. Draw a star on top of your tree.
4. Draw a fireplace with a mantel next to the tree.
5. Draw a stocking hanging from the mantel of your fireplace.
6. Draw a present below the tree.
Then have players count up how many points they received by following this rubric:
1. 2 points if the tree touches the floor.
2. 2 points if your stocking is touching your mantel.
3. 1 point if your star touches your tree.
4. 1 point if your star is above your tree.
5. 1 point for every Christmas ornament ball that is ON your tree, etc.
6. 1 point if your fireplace doesn’t touch the tree (it’s a fire hazard!).
7. 1 point if you actually drew something decorative on your stocking (or something cute, like a tiny kitten peeking out).
8. 2 points if your present is under your tree.
Give some sort of prize to the winner*
If you want to go to the REAL snow, here's some helpful tips!
HELPFUL TIPS FOR YOUR SNOW DAY
- Organize everything the night before. Like put everything by the front door.
- BUT, make sure you have the necessities ahead of time, NOT the night before.
- Fill your gas tank up the night before too.
- Leave the house by 7:00am/7:30am, Frazier Park turns away non-residents, when it becomes too crowded. Wrightwood runs out of the $5.00 day passes by 10:15am, then you'll have to buy the $25 yearly pass, because you drove all the way up there and you want to play in the snow! The store opens at 10:00am. SO MY POINT IS, LEAVE THE HOUSE EARLY.
- WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Snow chains, most likely Caltrans won't have you install them, they just wanna know you have them for an in-case type situation.
- Mittens (better than gloves, you can scoop up snow real good)
- Snow pants, water-resistant jacket, snow boots or rain-boots with warm socks
- Beanie and possibly a scarf - bring it just in case (all this stuff can be borrowed from friends, family OR purchased cheaply on FB Marketplace) - I am not telling you where to buy your items, it is merely an inexpensive way to go AND kids grow out of stuff fast!
- A sled. They jack up the prices at those mountain snow stores, so do yourself a favor and buy ahead of time.
- A chair or a water-proof blanket, because you're gonna get tired hiking up and down that hill with the sled. Relax at some point with your hot-chocolate...
- HOT CHOCOLATE - bring a huge thermos or stainless steel LARGE cup to hold enough for you and the family
- Lunch AND Snacks, you'll probably be there 3-hours, you're gonna get hungry
- Change of clothes and blankets, I promise your drive home will be heavenly, because you won't be freezing in your wet winter clothes
- SAVE snacks and possibly hot chocolate for the ride home! Everyone's gonna be hungry. Or better yet, stop at McDonald's, because their hot-chocolate is the BEST.
Send OC CalWORKs pics, please. We wanna see your family fun!

It's the little things
She'd been asking for a tea party, so we picked out books from the library and I surprised her with a little tea party in the atrium area. It's the little things your kids will remember.
