Lunar New Year celebrations
This Saturday, February 10, marks the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. Both campuses enjoyed celebrating the Lunar New Year last week. Please check 'Campus notes' below for links to video and photography footage.
We would like to thank the PTCC and volunteers for all of their help decorating both campuses, the photography team for capturing such beautiful images at both events and everyone involved in bringing together these wonderful performances. Thank you!
February is Black History Month
GLOBE students will be working on a variety of activities and events in observance of Black History Month. From creating videos and bucket hats, to door decorations, we will bring you the highlights in the coming weeks!
New Black Wall Street welcomes The GLOBE Academy community
Join us in Stonecrest, Georgia, from 3–5pm on Sunday, February 25, as we:
• Help make a positive financial impact.
• Raise awareness of GLOBE.
• Learn about the original Black Wall St. in Tulsa and how its history has been rebuilt here in Atlanta.
More information will be provided over the next few weeks.
See flyer for details.
Campus notes
Lower Campus
Lunar New Year celebrations
Thank you to the Mandarin track families who joined us for last week's Lunar New Year performance. Video and photography footage is available here: video | picture gallery.
We are pleased to share some images of artwork that can be found around campus in celebration of Lunar New Year.
Carpool safety at Lower Campus
During carpool, please keep your child safely restrained inside the vehicle until they are ready to exit. There have been a few instances where children have been seen hanging out of car windows and behaving in such a way that can be a distraction to other drivers. We would like to keep everybody’s attention on the task-at-hand and to be mindful of merging traffic and pedestrians (walkers) in the area around campus. Thank you.
Second grade students take part in Black History Month activity
This week, Mr. Edward Tagoe is leading all second grade students through a hands-on activity connected to the national Black History Month theme of 'African Americans and the Arts'. Students will be painting their own bucket hats after participating in a brief workshop on expressing creativity through symbols - including that of his company's logo and from his home country of Ghana. Mr. Tagoe is the founder of the company P.O.E.T. (or Production of Expressive Therapy) and is the parent of a GLOBE first grade student. Thank you for this amazing experience, Mr. Tagoe!
Students can wear red, green, yellow and black on Fridays
On Fridays throughout February, we’re asking the GLOBE community to wear red, green, yellow, black, or a Black-history themed t-shirt. Please remember that students must be in uniform during the remainder of the week. If required, you can refresh your memory of our uniform policy here.
Upper Campus

Success at DeKalb Science Fair

This week is National School Counselors Week
Please join us in celebrating our incredible school counselors during National School Counseling Week. Our counselors provide invaluable support and guidance to students on their educational journey.
Clinic
We are delighted to introduce Patricia Solomon, our new Upper Campus school nurse. Patricia joined GLOBE on Monday. Say “hi" if you happen to see her around campus.
Please keep your child at home if they are showing signs of illness
Please be sure to keep your child home if they are displaying signs of illness. Also, please include your campus nurse in any communication about absence due to illness, and include any diagnosis if you have one so that we can track illnesses and take proper precautions. If you have any questions for our school nurses, you can contact your campus nurse via email. UC Nurse | LC Nurse.

You can join our efforts even if you can’t join our weekly meeting on Thursdays at 8pm (meeting info above). Please click here to view our different needs and click here to sign up to help make our biggest fundraiser come to life! We can't do it without the help of our generous parents and friends. We have all levels of time commitment opportunities. Once you sign up, please email PTCC Auction so we can provide you with more details.

Volunteers Needed this Friday: Lower Campus Outdoor Work Morning

Lower Campus Library Work Day
Calling all parents, let's show up to work with Ms. Stowe as her Library Assistants on Friday, February 16. We will be helping Ms. Stowe with various projects in the library. Volunteer slots are for 2 hours but any time you have is appreciated. Sign up here.
Field Day Planning
Middle School parents, we need you! Middle school will be participating in Field Day this year, but it cannot happen without parent involvement. If you are interested in helping by being a Co-Lead for Field Day, please reach out to CLASSPAC.
“Volunteer of the Month” Carpool Winners!
Congratulations to our volunteers of the month, Heidi Holder and Ann Dunaway Teh. We hope you enjoy using the “Volunteer of the Month” carpool flag to skip the line during the month of February. Be sure to log your volunteer hours for a chance to win next month!
Lost and Found: Please label your items!
Parent volunteers return labeled items to the owner's classroom. If your items are not labeled, they may never make it back home. Please take a moment to find a labeling solution that will work for you. Here are some ideas to get you started: Avery No-Iron Kids Clothing Labels, Sharpie Fabric Marker, and Mabel's Labels (customizable labels and stamps, dishwasher and laundry safe. Enter "The GLOBE Academy" in the "support a fundraiser" field, and they'll donate 20% back to GLOBE!).
Volunteer hours can help GLOBE receive grants
Did you know that when you volunteer, it can help GLOBE receive grants? Some donors want to know how involved the community is. We can show them that parents are invested in the school by sharing the volunteer hours we have tracked. So please remember to log your hours here. When you log your time, you'll also be entered in our drawing for a volunteer-of-the-month carpool flag. As a reminder, each family is requested to volunteer ten hours each year. To see current volunteer opportunities, click here. Thank you for volunteering at GLOBE.
Shopping can help GLOBE!
Did you know when you shop at places like Publix, Kroger, and OfficeMax/Office Depot, they will donate to GLOBE PTCC? To find out how to easily set this up, click here. Every penny counts!
