February 2024

Developing student-focused pathways for a lifetime of opportunities through
innovation, exploration, and community partnerships.
Message from the Program Director
Hi CLA families,
With Semester 1 behind us, scholars have begun Semester 2 with a fresh start and a renewed focus. It is exciting to see the growth occurring across campus. We will start the first two weeks by completing Winter MAPS benchmarking during Advisory. This will provide us with a measurement of how our scholars have progressed since Fall compared to the national norm in Math and Reading. Upcoming, we will also administer the Pre-ACT to 10th Grade scholars.
Beyond academic measures, we continue to be committed to providing the + in Every Student Graduates +. We want to add meaningful experiences and explorations of careers within high school. We continue to offer Friday Enrichment and Support. While Friday is a school day, where scholars are expected to complete academic work asynchronously, we offer hands-on opportunities for scholars to explore their interests and learn new skills. This month, we are offering a college tour to SOU, a pottery class, and a pizza-making culinary experience. Tutoring is available every Friday from 1:00-3:30 also.
We continue to host monthly Career Chats that are engaging and offer scholars information about possible future career opportunities. In the last month, we have hosted the Linde Group (electronic gas company), Amy Blazer (IRS agent), and Congressman Cliff Bentz!
In addition to this, we are gearing up for Spring Term at RCC and KCC. If scholars are interested in joining the Pathways Academy, families must attend the informational meeting on February 7th at 6:00.
February is going to be LOVEly! ❤️
Serving with gratitude,
Jennifer Evans

CLA couldn't be more proud of you! 🎓
Staff Feature - Mrs. Curry
Mrs. Curry is a Social Studies, Pathways, and Elective Teacher at CLAHS. If she is not helping scholars learn about global issues and conflicts, you can find her helping our Pathways Scholars through their college courses and preparing financially for college or providing real-world experiences through the Student Store for the Entrepreneurship course. Mrs. Curry has also built the Student Leadership team at CLAHS to recognize that "Leadership is an action, not a position." Our Leadership scholars serve at K8 events (Fall Festival, Literacy Night, May Muscle Hustle) and help plan HS events (Homecoming, Prom, Movie Nights). What scholars love most about Mrs. Curry is how she cares for them. She is thoughtful, kind, and truly invested in helping scholars prepare for their future.
Fun Fact: Mrs. Curry loves Mexican food, the USC Trojans, and Friends. If you want to brighten her day, bring her a Peppermint Mocha or a good book (she is an avid reader!).
NEWS
Pre-ACT for 10th Grade
We share a responsibility to ensure your child is on track for college and career readiness. We’re excited to share that the Oregon Department of Education approved and will fund PreACT® as the early college and career readiness assessment for all Oregon students in grade 10 for the 2023-2024 school year.
With PreACT® assessments, you can get useful information to help your child choose the right high school courses, think about ways to work on areas for improvement, and even begin discussions about their college and career interests. This year, we’ve chosen to administer the PreACT as one of the first actionable steps your students can take to become ready for college and plan for the future.
At no cost to you, we are providing your child with the PreACT on Tuesday, February 13th (Group B) and Tuesday, February 20th (Group A) during regular school hours from 9:10-12:30 at the Central Office.
We’re confident your child will do their best. This is an opportunity to see your student’s potential performance on the ACT® test. To learn more about the test, see the attached infographic, 6 Ways PreACT Helps You.

We also take this time to communicate with parents as needed. We encourage families to take notes of these dates as well. You can use these dates to celebrate and support your scholar too!
