The Time Is Almost Here!

The time is almost upon us and I am looking forward to another great year laying the foundation for future success for our children. Here are a couple of items that I wanted to make sure you were aware of:


Schedule for First Week Back:


Tuesday, August 13:

8am-11am: All CDC Staff Mtg. this is EVERYONE (facilities & food service personnel only until 10am) at Greenview; breakfast will be provided.


Thursday, 8/15: District Professional Development Day at Greenview

8am-12pm: PreK Training w/ Stephanie Dozier at Greenview


Friday, August 16:

9am-11am: Poverty Simulation @ Greenview (Dunbar, Golden Strip & Riley)

12pm-2pm: Poverty Simulation @ Greenview (NWC, Overbrook & Greenview)


Tuesday-Friday: Complete Google Classroom Assignments-Staff mtg/Active Shooter Video, etc. (see more info below)-BE SURE TO CLICK "Turn it In" AS INDICATION THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ASSIGNMENTS AND UNDERSTAND THE INFORMATION (if you have any questions about any of the information/assignments, be sure to see me or an AP for clarification before clicking "done"), Work in Rooms, Meet the Teacher (including center chosen evening date).


  • Each teaching team will be providing “Meet the Teacher” opportunities between 8/13-8/17 for each of their assigned children and families. There will be a evening “Meet the Teacher” option at all centers (dates and times were determined at center level and can be found on google classroom calendar or web page).

  • Be sure you have watched all your safety videos. These are due in mid-September, but I highly encourage you to get them (or most) done before you return on 8/13 if possible.

  • As you begin planning for the year, be sure to keep most Wednesday afternoons until 4pm open for CDC meetings. Wednesday afternoons will continue to be used for faculty, planning, strategic planning and center meetings, therefore, please make arrangements to stay on the Wednesdays designated on the Google Classroom Calendar that have meetings scheduled.

  • The buildings will be open and accessible for you beginning August 7 to get into your rooms if you want to come in.

Greenville Drive-Who's In?!?

Save the Date! –The Greenville Drive, Public Education Partners, and Greenville County Schools will host the second annual Teach864 Leadoff on Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Fluor Field to celebrate our district’s greatest asset---our teachers!


All GCS teachers will receive a complimentary ticket and a $5 food voucher. More details coming from the district, so be on the lookout.

Mindfulness

"Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.


Spending too much time planning, problem-solving, daydreaming, or thinking negative or random thoughts can be draining. It can also make you more likely to experience stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression. Practicing mindfulness exercises can help you direct your attention away from this kind of thinking and engage with the world around you."

Our goal this year is to learn how to be "mindful" for the benefit of ourselves and others.

Julie Valentine Center - Run 2 Overcome

Just wanted you runners/walkers out there to know that the Julie Valentine Center has their annual fundraiser run Saturday, August 3. I will be running the 10K if you hate running alone, or you can run/walk the 5K.


This is a fun opportunity to support one of our partners if you are around and like this kind of thing. I'll be there bright and early and you are more than welcome to join me.

Google Classroom w/ New Calendar (Check it Out)

We will be using Google Classroom again this year to share information, flip many staff meetings and collaborate across centers. Our classroom for this school year can be accessed in Google Classroom (using your Greenville gmail account: yourusername@greenvilleschools.us and same password as your outlook email) and entering the following Class Code: 4rzu5k


We do need to change the classroom from last year (I mentioned that we would keep it the same last spring, but found we cannot) so we can access all the new features and changes. Feel free to join the new classroom before we return or continue to use the old one until you return. I will be posted in BOTH classrooms so I don't miss anyone.


I have added ALL events that are currently on our calendars for this school year to the Google Calendar that is attached to this classroom as well. You can access this by going to your Google Calendar (waffle upper right of your gmail screen and choose calendar) and then check the box for CDC Staff Classroom 2019-20 calendar and all of the events will appear on your calendar. I will continue to update this calendar as dates and events are shared with me.


If you so desire and you can begin completing any of the assignments I post in the next few weeks so you can spend more time setting up your classroom when you return if you would like. (Definitely not required OR expected, but an option for those that work best this way).


I will be posting a video "staff meeting" no later than August 5 so feel free to view it before you come back if you want..... if anything additional is added by the district between then and August 13, I will do an additional "screencast" assignment so no one will have to go back and redo anything they have already completed; just complete the new shorter assignment.


Keep in mind the video "staff meeting" posted on 8/1 is ONLY for those early birds. The rest of you will have plenty of time to view it the week of 8/13.
