New Videos in Learn 360
This spreadsheet includes grade level, copyright year, and annotations for the 300 videos added in the last 30 days. FYI. There's a 2021 video about Vice President Harris from History Kids--Kamala Harris: The First Female Vice President.

1,000,000 Books--Again!
Every few years the Heartland AEA library quietly celebrates another 1,000,000 children's books checked out to central Iowa schools. Well, we wanted to celebrate out loud this year!
Last semester we checked out the 1 millionth title since the 2012 fall semester. It took us a little longer to reach that benchmark because of COVID.
These are fiction and nonfiction books; chapter books; beginning readers; books about friendship; books for research reports; books for leisure reading; poetry books; books with funny stories; books with big ideas; books about famous people; books about people just like me; books about parts of the world that are different from Iowa; books about scientists, inventors, explorers; books about animals and science; books about people and places from long ago; books about space; books written in different languages, and more.
If you would like to join the book rotation program and receive a box of fiction and nonfiction books every six weeks, click here.
If you need books to support a specific unit, call the Heartland AEA library to request a theme order, and tell us about the unit and reading and interest levels of your students.
Fact-Checking Tools
This first article includes some links to teach about misinformation and disinformation. You may already be familiar with some of fact-checking tools in the 18-minute video “Media Literacy Masterclass with MediaWise Campus Correspondents." Deepware was a new one for me. Take a critical look on your own and note the Poynter affiliation and that Meta was a partner in some of the videos.

Here’s how a school in Arlington, VA, found a way to encourage reading in the school library.

To help support the K-12 Iowa Core in Social Studies standards, here is a link to follow the Iowa legislature https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation

Intellectual Freedom Resources
On January 11 the State Library of Iowa, Iowa Library Association, and Iowa Association of School Librarians presented a webinar on intellectual freedom for school and public librarians. Here are the resources they shared. Here's another resource from ALA listing court cases that we found after the list was shared on the 11th.
