The Buzz
Hopewell Middle School
We are Starting the Second Semester with a Bang!
As we get back to business, we are reflecting as educators, reviewing classroom contracts, promoting kindness, and continuing leadership lessons. It occurred to me that I'm leaving the parents out! Not okay! I found a wonderful article on Scholastics.com focusing on how parents can support their middle schooler:(http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/parent-teacher-partnerships/13-tips-success-middle-school-principal).
I encourage you to copy/paste this into your URL browser. The article is short, a quick read, and definitely worth the time. As always, we have a lot going on this week, from crazy weather to a magic carpet ride!
We can show you the world......
Well, we can show you a great performance, that's for sure! This weekend, the place to be is the Hopewell Cafeteria! Come and see our talented students, directed by the fabulous Mr. Cordova, in Aladdin! Show times are:
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 6:30-7:30
Sunday 3:00-4:00
Hope to see you there!
Thank you Seth Flowers and Allstate Insurance!
Mr. Seth Flowers and Allstate Insurance made a significant donation to our math department, ensuring that our students will have access to Think Through Math for the second semester. This program will now be available to all students providing them with practice needed to master grade level math TEKS. It also identifies where students are in their learning and pushes them to the next level of learning and new skills. Along with teacher instruction, it will be a valuable resource for our students. We are so grateful to have this program and for your continued support of Hopewell Middle School! Thank you for your partnership. Parents are making great things happen at Hopewell.
Tug-O-War.......in Science???
Absolutely! Eighth graders started their unit on Physics with games exploring Issac Newton's Second Law of Motion and the relationship between acceleration, force, and mass. Ms. Dinkin's class is shown here in the graphic. No children were injured in this activity and EVERY child had a lot of fun!
STAAR Ready
Students will soon be participating in the STAAR Ready. This is a released STAAR test from previous years which teachers will use to identify skill mastery and skills that need reteaching to ensure students are on track for a successful year. Results will be used for reflection and planning purposes for teachers and self evaluation for students and will not be included in student grades. Tests are scheduled as follows:
February 12 Reading/G7 Writing
February 13 Math
March 8 Science
