Plainfield School District News!
Hello, Plainfield!
I hope everyone had a day filled with love this week for Valentine's Day -- it's so nice to have a holiday that's all about the positives -- and chocolate 🥰.
In the heart of winter, February is a busy time in the SAU Office as we get ready for our Annual Meeting in March -- think of it as Superbowl 2024 for your school district. There's quite a bit of information here to help you feel informed and prepared for March 16th, but of course we're happy to answer any additional questions you might have. Don't hesitate to email me at sleggett@plainfieldschool.org or call the SAU Office at 603-469-3442. Everyone should feel they have all the answers they need before voting day.

Town Meeting and Voting:
As a reminder, Plainfield Town Meeting will also take place on March 16th in the afternoon, and voting will be on Tuesday March 12, 2024.
There are three school board seats open, and our three incumbents have all signed up to run again. This is a great sign for the stability of the district moving forward. Thank you to our public officials who dedicate so much time and effort to move Plainfield forward.
FAST:
Many thanks to everyone (including Mother Nature for good skiing weather this winter) for such a wonderful experience at Whaleback this year. This program takes a village and we're thankful to have so much cooperation with all our partners.
College Scholarships:
For those of you with seniors in the college application process....here's a great scholarship opportunity for financial help through the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation: NHCF Scholarships 2024.
Education News from NH
As I send out these monthly newsletters, I'll be including information regarding education news from around the State of New Hampshire and our Department of Education (NHED).
The New Hampshire Legislature has an unprecedented number of bills to review this year. School funding, expansion of the voucher program, and curriculum content and instruction remain the focus areas. In the next couple of weeks, we'll be able to see which bills are moving forward and "crossing over" to the Senate for the next review (and vice versa).

The New Hampshire State Board of Education is reviewing a second draft of the 306s -- Minimum Standards for Schools -- this week on Thursday morning, February 15th. Information was released on February 12th in the state board of education packet that indicates several of the recommendations provided by a team that has been working on these rules since late October were not included in this updated draft. It's unfortunate that what's moving forward doesn't represent the multiple work sessions and constituent voices that have come together to revise these standards in the best interests of students and educators. We hope to see these included in future revisions.
The New Hampshire Legislature has already documented over 200 proposed bills relating to education. It's shaping up to be a very busy legislative season. If you're interested in learning more, please be sure to visit the NH Legislature page to see the full calendar and all drafts.
