You've Gotta Fall Down To Learn How To Get Back Up
We hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to enjoy some time relaxing or running around like crazy, whichever one brings you the most joy.
I wanted to start off by thanking you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the kind emails and messages we got regarding the outcome of our movie night. It was once again a reminder of how lucky we are to have the opportunity to work in this community. While the outcome was not as we had envisioned, and was definitely a lesson in humility. Here at PHJH, we are firm believers in the power of failure, but man, this one for us was a doozy with a little extra spice dumped on the wounds. We learned some good lessons, one of which is that we have a movie curse, and it is vital for our survival that we avoid them at all costs going forward. 😂
After a good night of sleep and a large glass of chocolate milk, I woke up thinking an equal travesty to having to shut the event down was the loss of all of the exposure to the CLASSIC references that the kids missed!!! They robbed themselves of some priceless conversational tools... Insanely immense education and life lesson opportunities were lost that night.
Parents...The passing of this essential knowledge is in your hands now.
Without you, they will never know the meanings behind...
"Sweep the leg"
"Wax on, wax off"
"Paint the Fence"
“Man who catch fly with chopstick, accomplish anything.”
In all seriousness, though, Patriots, while we were super sad about the behavior at the event and the way it ended, we are firm believers in the power of learning from our mistakes, resetting, and trying again.
We can not wait to see your beautiful faces tomorrow!
As always Patriots...
You are LOVED!!!

Please Give a Warm Welcome To Our New Counselor Celete VanValkenburg
Hello Patriots,
I was asked to share a little about myself with all of you, so here you go...
I graduated from BYU with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. After teaching 5th grade in Houston, Texas (yay Texas!) I decided that the aspects of education that I love more closely align with the job of a school counselor, and so it was time to go back to school! I'm now a full-time Grad Student through Utah State University, and I will graduate this year with my Masters in School Counseling. Before I became a Patriot, I worked at Summit Academy in K-12 in several different roles; Math Interventionist, ELL Coordinator, Gifted and Talented Specialist, and High School Counselor. I love working with kids of all ages and am excited to be working with kids right in the middle.
Some fun facts about me- I have chronic hiccups. I'm not sure why, but I hiccup about once every hour.
I'm a theater kid! I will always wear that badge proudly. I've never met a more loving, inclusive group than a group of theater kids (young or old)
My favorite form of self-care is painting my nails. They are a new color every week.
I am fascinated by people- why they do what they do, and why they think what they think. If you want to discuss court cases, true crime, mystery novels, psychology, or moral or ethical debates- I'm your gal.
Thank you for welcoming me with open arms!!!

This year with all three grades participating, we had close to 60 different projects with close to 130 students who worked on researching and creating these fantastic projects. I love doing this project with these students because they have a passion for their projects but also learn about being flexible and communicating with each other to create a historical argument in different ways.
We are so proud of each and every student that participated this year!

We are working really hard to help our kids take the steering wheel with their learning, so the more we can ask them questions and remain curious, the more success our students will see.
