What's happening in HCS...
September 26-30
We have finally arrived. It's Fall Break in Haywood County Schools! It's hard to believe that a quarter of the year is already over.
On the website this week, we began our series spotlighting our School Resource Officers. We profile Officers Mansfield, Miller, and Robinson who serve our students at Anderson Early Childhood, Haywood Elementary, and East Side Elementary School. Please take a few minutes and read their stories that are linked at the bottom of the newsletter.
We also shared an in-depth piece on Haywood Tomcats wide receiver Jamari Person. Jamari is a senior on the football team and has garnered interest from some big time college programs. Not only does Jamari excel on the field, he also is a great student in the classroom. Check out this full piece at the bottom of the newsletter.
School board members, community leaders, and district personnel met at East Side Elementary where students led a lunch meeting and discussed some of the things that made East Side a wonderful place to learn and grow. Pictures are included at the bottom.
Be sure to listen to episodes of Tomcat Talk that highlight Jamari and give a preview of the Northside game tonight. Episodes are linked below.
Have a restful and safe Fall Break!

Keeping HES Safe
Charlie Miller is a law enforcement veteran of twenty years, but his job as SRO at Haywood Elementary School he feels is the most important job he's ever had. Charlie greets the kids in the morning carpool line and keeps them safe throughout the school day by constantly walking the halls and being a visible presence for anyone who enters the building. Read more about Charlie at the link below.
Adapt and Adjust - Jamari Person
Jamari Person isn't your typical high-level recruit; he's only in his second season of high school football. Even with that limited experience, Jamari is torching opposing defenses and getting noticed by some big time collegiate programs. Read more about Jamari's journey in this in-depth piece.
