Details about Seating:
It has always been a tradition for the Winter Assembly to be open to our whole community, including alumni, grandparents, and friends. We have used many venues in the past that were able to accommodate this larger audience. The venue available to us this year is SOU Music Recital Hall, and as such we will need to keep our audience smaller. The music hall is a beautiful environment but has very limited seating.
The audience will be for immediate family (guardians, parents, siblings) of current Siskiyou students only.
The assembly will be videotaped and we're happy to offer extended family and friends the opportunity to view the performance online in the following weeks. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions regarding this, please email or contact Kristin.
The second grade brought Santa Lucia's light to the campus today, along with lovely saffron buns!
Dear Siskiyou School Families,
We look forward to gathering as a whole community tomorrow evening, Wednesday, December 13th, at 6:30pm for our annual Winter Assembly at SOU. It will be so wonderful to see all the children of the school performing together and sharing something with their classes.
On Friday we will hold our last in house advent assembly; it’s always my greatest joy to hear the children singing together! Classes will celebrate the last day of school before winter break with “secret giver” gifts and little holiday parties.
Please take a moment to come to school in the morning to sign your child’s cards and if you so choose, give a little contribution to the teacher gift fund. Your words are always so appreciated by the teachers. The cards will be available through Friday morning.
I wish everyone a wonderful Solstice as we celebrate the return of the light; Happy Hanukkah and a holiday season filled with love and heart-warming family moments. May the children enjoy sledding and skiing, reading books and playing with relatives and friends, and may you find rests and respite in this winter season.
From my heart to yours, Aurilia

Join us in the new year for an evening with Nina Gallwey (ohanafamilyrecources.com) as we introduce the Waldorf pedagogy and how it nourishes students at the Siskiyou School in our modern times. We highly recommend this talk for incoming families and lower grades parents, but everyone is welcome and can find a gem of wisdom to take home.
Math - Mr. Monda
Heading into these last couple of weeks before winter break, the math classes are in a good rhythm. Each of the four grades, 5th through 8th, has a balanced, yet slightly different mix of new and review material.
The 5th grade is reviewing fractions with all of the processes, strengthening this understanding so we can move into decimals in January. Sprinkled here and there are patterns, order of operations, exponents, and various word problems and puzzles to keep fresh material coming in as well.
The 6th grade is reviewing both fractions and decimals, with an eye on business math and percents in the new year. There are also various word problems and challenges, with some sudokus and prime number puzzles also thrown into the mix.
The 7th grade is learning how to write and solve algebraic equations as well as practicing negative integers with all of the processes. We are also reviewing percents as well as mean, median, mode, and range (statistics).
The 8th grade is solving more complicated algebraic equations and graphing linear equations. We have also been shoring up the foundations by reviewing all of the things listed in the previous grades.
It's been a really great year so far. I appreciate getting to work with all of your children day in and day out.
~ Mr. Monda
Math - Ms. James
In 5th grade Math we have been reviewing all the hard work the students did previously on fractions. It is evident Mr Alvarez’s class has done diligent work on this foundational concept!
The 7th graders are building strong Algebra foundations with equation work, variable usage, order of operations and substituting values to calculate complex equations. They also finished some really fun Integer Games which they created in teams and we’ve had some fun days playing and refining. This is a fun addition to the Math games closet!
Our 8th graders are hard at work adding complexity to their already strong Algebra knowledge. They’ve conquered linear equations and points of intersection between two line and are gaining a good hold on area models preparation for quadratic equations in the spring. All this, while putting on their final 8th grade play, making Winter Fair wreaths and working on 8th grade projects. It’s a big year and these students are rising to the challenges!
It’s so nice to have our students engaged and happy to be in the classrooms! I hope you all have a restful and healthy Winter Break.
~ Ms. James
The second grade math curriculum, brought this year by Mrs. Bartow, reflects back on the introduction of arithmetic concepts from first grade. Now, math can get really fun!
The students play with numbers to gain familiarity and confidence in their skills and the rhythm of addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
It has been a joy to adventure with many of you as you explore your parenting paths. Thank you for your willingness to co-create new parenting paradigms! I have been so touched by your courage, willingness, and dedication. May your holiday be blessed with nuturing the sacred gift that your family is. I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
