EVE's Weekly Highlights
January 26, 2024
A Word From Mrs. Manning...
Wow what a week! We have had so many challenges during this month of January but we are happy that we are back in school and learning is taking place. We do want to apologize for the inconvenience with the abrupt closing of school on Wednesday. Things sometimes happen that we as an individual school have no control over and we must follow district directives at the time in which they are given. Thank you so much for working with us, being patient, and understanding. We value and appreciate each and everyone of our EVE families!
The month of February is rapidly approaching and there are several events that will be taking place. Please make sure you are on the lookout for our February calendar so that you and your students are prepared to participate.
100 days!!! We have finally made it to the 100th day of school. Students are invited to dress up like they are 100 years old or wear a shirt with 100 items on it. We can't wait to see all of the creativity.
What's Going On???
January 29th- 100th Day of School
February 1st- Beginning of Black History Month
February 2nd- HBCU (Historically Black College/University) and Greek Unity Day *Students can wear a shirt representing a historically black college or cash for casual
Lunch Time
We are running into an issue with students deciding that they do not like the school lunch that is provided for the day. They are then choosing not to eat in the cafeteria and instead go to the nurse's office to ask for snacks. We are not able to provide those snacks to your students as an alternative to eating their lunch. Please review the attached menus with your children and discuss their lunch choices. If they do not like the option for the day, please send them with a lunch from home. The snacks in the nurse's office are for emergency situations only. If your child does this, they will be told no.
Morning Announcements
Morning announcements are now being streamed through Class Dojo live! Our announcement team has been doing a fabulous job! Now parents are able to see our announcement as well. You can check out our daily school announcements on school story in Class Dojo. Haven't signed up yet? Reach out to your child's teacher for sign up information and the chance to communicate with your child's teacher(s) at any time.
Central Arkansas Library System Tech Cards
I’m pleased to announce that we will be partnering with Central Arkansas Library System to provide all eStem students and teachers Tech Cards. These cards will allow digital check-out of many resources from CALS. It is our hope that we can increase student access to digital resources in order to promote reading and educational content. There is a way for parents to set parameters for the content their student can access.
Please look for the letter to sign up your child on Monday! We are extremely excited for this opportunity!
Attendance
Dear eStem Families,
We wanted to take a moment to reiterate our focus this year of reaching Every Student, Every Day and to emphasize the importance of regular student attendance for your child’s success.
To help illustrate the importance of our students coming to school each day, please see the graphic below that shows just how much instruction is missed when students are absent, even just 1 day every 2 weeks can add up quickly and result in a lot of missed instruction!
We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances may lead to absences. In these cases, please communicate with the school and provide the necessary documentation. However, we are asking that you prioritize your child’s attendance whenever possible. eStem’s attendance policy can be found in our student handbooks, and we’ve included a quick link HERE. Students are only allotted 10 absences per year, and we have many students who have exceeded this number in the first semester. Exceeding these 10 absences could result in loss of credit or retention. If you have questions about the number of days your child has missed, you can access this information through HAC or email your child’s school registrar for additional help.
Let’s work together to ensure that your child receives the best possible education, and their school attendance is a vital piece to their achievement. We appreciate your help and commitment to making your child’s attendance a top priority!
Email, Address, or Phone Number Changes
If you have an address, email, or phone number change, please email those changes to our registrar, Mrs. Ginny Parker, at Ginny.Parker@estemschools.org. This helps us make sure our records are up to date and so we can provide you with pertinent information.
