Seguin ISD Fine Arts: January 2021
Music Students Earn All-State!
The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students’ dedication to their musical knowledge and skill. Beginning each fall, over 70,000 high school students across the state begin a rigorous audition process in their TMEA Region. Individuals perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify for Texas All-State. All-State students are essentially in the top 2-3% of student musicians in the state!
Seguin ISD is proud to have three students qualify for this distinguished honor. These Seguin High School seniors are: Casey Silvius (All-State Band), Landon Vogt (All-State Band), and Sirena Vela (All-State Choir). Congratulations goes out to these students, their directors, and their families on this accomplishment!
Thespians Earn Top Honors!
Three Seguin HS students participated in the Texas Thespians Virtual State Festival and earned the achievement of National Qualifier! These students each performed a Solo Musical Theatre piece and were ranked by 3 evaluators as top performers in the State. This is a grand achievement especially when faced with so many obstacles this year. These students rose to the challenge and continued to work on their craft!
Congratulations to these students, their families, and their teachers on this achievement!

UIL Fine Arts Events Coming Soon!
During a year when many COVID safety protocols are in place, theatre students are learning to perform in masks and with updated contest procedures that promote safety. Bands and Choirs are navigating logistics for Concert & Sight-Reading, and all music programs have new procedures for solo & ensemble performances that provide students the opportunity to continue to experience UIL while keep safety as a top priority. UIL State mariachi, typically scheduled for February, has been moved to June.
Good luck to all Seguin ISD groups this semester in UIL events!
Congrats to Seguin Matador Cheer!
