Message from Mrs. Perez
Hi BRMS Families!
We just ended our Thanksgiving Break! I hope you all enjoyed the week off with the kids. I am so thankful for the support you give us and grateful for the time we are able to spend with our BRMS students.
Now we are headed into a busy time of the year. This month, our Capturing Kids Heart families are focused on responsibility. Responsibility involves willingly and effectively taking charge of our thoughts, words, and actions. It entails acknowledging and being accountable for our own conduct. Our decisions carry weight not only for ourselves but also for those within our family, school, and community. Our focus is on fostering a sense of responsibility, enabling us to own our actions and develop resilience to overcome challenges on the path to achieving our aspirations. Embracing responsibility also equips us with valuable skills in time management and prioritization. This crucial life skill contributes to the development of leadership qualities, self-control, and an understanding that our choices bring about both positive and negative consequences. We will be doing lessons and activities through this month for this word.
We kindly ask for a few moments of your time to participate in our Capturing Kids' Hearts survey. Our objective is to cultivate a secure learning atmosphere while empowering students with roles and responsibilities on campus. Our aim is to foster a collaborative relationship between students and teachers in the teaching and learning process, creating a sense of teamwork. Look at that, the two words we have been working on the last two months. Your feedback through this survey will provide valuable insights into areas where we, as a staff, can improve. Please take a moment to complete the survey by clicking the link.

Thank you for your collaboration in making our school a better place for all.
Please check the calendar for our upcoming events. Let’s make this an amazing three weeks for our students to wrap up a fantastic first semester.
Sincerely,
Angel Perez

How can parents talk to their kids about vaping
As the use of vapes/e-cigarettes becomes more prevalent in society, kids may be tempted to try them out or give in to peer pressure. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s. E-cigarettes can contain other harmful substances besides nicotine. Talking to your kids about vaping can be difficult but here is a link that can guide you.

Are energy drinks safe for adolescents?
Energy drinks do not provide sustained energy and have a higher likelihood of a “crash-and-burn” effect. Caffeine excretes water from the body to dilute the sugar entering the bloodstream which can lead to dehydration. The current recommendation for adolescents ages 12-18 is to consume less than 100 mg of caffeine per day, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Energy drinks can contain 100-200 mg of caffeine per serving. Consuming high amounts of caffeine can be risky for adolescents. Some side effects can include:
· Dehydration (not enough water in your body).
· Heart complications (such as irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure and heart failure).
· Anxiety (feeling nervous and jittery).
· Insomnia (unable to sleep).
Boosting your energy without energy drinks:
· Eat well
· Get plenty of sleep
· Drink water to stay hydrated
· Work out or move around when tired
· Cut back on caffeine slowly
Sick students
Please keep all sick children home from school- this includes fever greater than 100 degrees, vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours. If you are unsure, please call your healthcare provider or school nurse for advice.

Thank you BRMS Student Council
We hosted a Middle school movie night. Worked hard on Christmas Cards to be delivered to a local nursing home, and have our Christmas Angel Shopping trip in the next few weeks where we will be shopping for 3 children to provide Christmas presents to. This couldn't be possible without the student council members working hard to raise money through fundraisers and events on campus.
Thank you for giving BETA
Veteran Bags
Beta collected and assembled 30 "Celebration" bags for local Veterans. Beta did this with the idea in mind that Veterans would feel appreciated not just on Veterans Day, but every time they opened something from their Celebration bag.
Cards for Troops
BRMS BETA created 100 Christmas Cards that were shipped to troops deployed during the holidays. Thank you BETA for your service to our troops during the holidays.
BETA Needs Sponsors
For a $100 donation, your family or business name will be placed on the back of a t-shirt that we will be selling to raise funds for our trip.
