Weekly Update
January 15th - 19th
Week 18
Hello families!
Well, we got our first and second snow days of the school year this week, along with a delay. It threw us off just a bit, and Wednesday and Thursday were a little wacky.
We noticed that there is LOTS of talking when students are supposed to be listening. We have also noticed that students are having a hard time controlling their bodies and keeping in their own space. With it being the time of the year when cabin fever starts to hit, it is SO important that you are reviewing the rules and expectations with your children. We as adults know it's hard to keep it together when we haven't been able to go outside to run some of our energy off, but it is incredibly important that we still stay in control of ourselves.
- Please review our Kindness Pledge from the beginning of the school year, found below.
- Please ask your child what he or she has to do to become one of Freddy's Friends.
- Please talk with your child about appropriate behavior in the cafeteria- staying seated, raising hands if anything is needed, using a quiet voice, listening when signaled to do so.
We are hopeful that this behavior can get back under control.
Thank you for your support of your child's learning by helping them with their work during our asynchronous day today, and in the future. We appreciate it!
Lastly, just as a reminder, now that Ms. Edwards is with us for the rest of the school year, please make sure when emailing, to email BOTH TEACHERS so all of us are on the same page.
Have a great long weekend!

iPad Reminders!
- When your child is working from his or her ipad, they must first go to the app called Classlink. From there, they can either work in Amplify or Dreambox.
- It is important to know that your child CANNOT get help from anyone else when working on these apps!! These learning apps level up base upon how your child answers the questions asked. If a sibling or parent is answering all the questions, students WILL NOT learn on their level.
- Please do not try to download separate apps on school ipad, and please do not encourage use other than to do Dreambox or Amplify. YouTube is not allowed for kindergarten student ipads unless it is a link that is shared by the teacher.
- Cameras are absolutely not allowed to be accessed unless it is for a learning assignment. I ask that you periodically check the photos app of the ipad to make sure students are not taking them out on the bus and taking pictures (which has happened in the past).
- If there is a snow this year, students will also need to know how to open up Zoom and access it to log in for virtual class time if necessary. We practiced, and if there is ever a need to do so, I will send families emails with information and details about it.
Important Dates
- January 22nd- Library Day! (This is different due to the asynchronous day falling on our normal library day!)
- January 25th- Asynchronous school day for students (Folder will be sent home with students on Wednesday with instructions)
- January 26th- No school for students; teacher professional development day
Classroom Corner
Phonics Fun!
Some sounds we are working very hard to not add anything extra to the end. For the sounds of /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/, /h/, /v/, /b/, /r/ we do not want to add extra sound like 'uh' to the end. This is because it will make it harder to sound words out when we come to them.
m, /m/; t, /t/; a, /a/ like apple; d, /d/; o, /o/ like octopus; c, /k/ like cat; g, /g/ like the end of dog, /i/ like itch; n, /n/; h, /h/; s, /s/; f, /f/; v, /v/; z, /z/; e, /e/ like egg; b, /b/; l, /l/; r, /r/; u, /u/ like umbrella

Reminders
- Please be sure you have your child’s school items labeled clearly! (Lunch Box, Bookbag, water bottle, etc.)
- Please make sure to send your child's green folder back EACH DAY. This is important for them to get in the routine of checking it as well as a way for us to communicate.
- Please send in a reusable water bottle with WATER ONLY for students to drink throughout the day.
- Please make sure to keep a change of clothes in your child's backpack in case of spills or accidents when at school. Periodically, I will ask you to check them to make sure they are weather appropriate. They will stay in their backpack unless they are needed.
