POLAR BEAR CLUB
We are excited for another “Polar Bear Club” for 2022-23 at École Vickers School!
School policy states that when the weather dips below -30 degrees Celsius, students are kept indoors for recess. This year, we are offering the opportunity for students in grades 3 to 8 the option to go outside for recess during these cold days if they choose, are appropriately dressed for the weather and have returned a signed permission form. A note with more details and the permission slip will be sent home with students. These are due back by Friday, December 2.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.

ÉCOLE VICKERS VOLLEY BALL TEAMS!
“The grade 8 girls had an awesome season! They got to practice together every Monday morning, and made improvements as the season went on. Both teams medaled in the tournament that was held at the beginning of the season, coming in 2nd and 3rd. Both teams played hard throughout extravaganza. Mme Beaulac and Miss Briere had a blast coaching you. Way to go girls!”
The grade 7 girls’ volleyball team finished the season with an exciting 3-set win over Birch Hills to capture their gold medals. The commitment from these girls at both practices and games was impressive. This group will continue to grow and improve as a team heading into next year as grade 8's. Thanks for the awesome season!
M Fortier grade 6 volleyball team had a great season! I am very proud of each team member for the effort that they invested into every game and practice. As the season neared its end, the grade 6s’ effort paid off as our team won the gold medal during the extravaganza tournament. What a way to end the season!
Mrs. Dallyn Grade 6 boys volleyball had a great season! The boys showed a lot of growth on the court and advanced to the semifinals in our league for Extravaganza. They represented Vickers well with their positive attitudes and great teamwork! It was a fun and successful season.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
For the most part, we want our students to enjoy playing outdoors before school, during both recesses, and the noon hour. On rainy days, we allow students to come into the school upon their arrival and remain indoors during all breaks. In the winter, we use -30 degrees Celsius as our cut off to remain indoors. If the temperature and/or wind-chill in combination with the temperature exceed -30, then all students are permitted in the school in the morning and during break times. We do expect that all students be dressed appropriately for the weather, as there are many cold days that students are expected to be outdoors.
