April 2023
A message from the principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you, and your family had a wonderful spring break. Just a reminder students cannot be dropped off at any door until 9:10 A.M. each day. There is no supervision during entry until that time. Staff are either in meetings or planning for the day. Dismissal starts for students being picked-up by a parent at 3:48 P.M. Thank you for dropping off and picking up at the designated times and places.
Until the snow has melted in the playground and field students still will need to wear winter gear outside for recess. Hopefully spring time weather will start soon. Happy April.
Mrs. Ray
CHANGE TO THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
School Board voted to amend the 2022-23 school year calendar. The last day of school for elementary students will now be Wednesday, June 7, while secondary students will have their last day Thursday, June 8
The School Board approved a change to the district calendar at its December 12 meeting, converting June 8 to a non-student contact day at the elementary level. There will be no change to the schedule at the secondary level.
This change will allow elementary staff additional time to prepare for transitions that will occur from the current school year to the next, including the closing of Franklin Elementary School and boundary changes across the district.
- Please have your sign out and visible on the front window with your child's name on it so staff can see each afternoon.
- Remind your child to please stay off the snow banks for safety purposes.
- Please enter and exit the car on the passenger side for safety purposes. We try our best to get students as close to the car as possible before we allow them to walk in the street because of the snow banks.
- If you need to change the way your student goes home, please call the office at 763-506-2600 before 3:30pm. For the safety of all our students, we are unable to accommodate changes once dismissal starts.

Help Kindergartners build literacy and math skills by becoming a K-Skillbuilder. A 2-hour training is required and provided. The activities are easy to follow, and it really helps our students grow.
Reading Helpers
Our First Grade team loves their Reading Helpers; you should try it! Similar to K-Skillbuilders, we ask that you commit to 45-60 minutes once a week, for a minimum of 3 weeks at a time. The students love the extra attention!
Lightning PTO Meeting
Join our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) on April 13th at 5:30pm to hear school plans, education data, and how you can be involved.
