Principals' Announcements
Student Course Scheduling for 2021-22 Begins This Month
Plans and preparation for course scheduling for the 2021-22 school year will occur this month. Students and parents will be receiving information via email of the various steps that are forthcoming. We encourage you to begin the conversation at home as to what academic plans your student has not only for next year, but for beyond high school.
A few points of emphasis we’d recommend you discuss with your son/daughter:
- What kind of academic load your student wishes to have or not have. Meaning, can your student balance everything efficiently?
- Consider the rigor of Honors or AP level courses. While we encourage students to challenge themselves and learn to take on a more difficult or diverse schedule, students still need balance – that of academics, anything he/she is involved in with extra-curriculars and athletics, working, volunteering, etc. Recognize that the more accelerated a student’s schedule might be, he/she will be required to dedicate time at home for homework and studying for quizzes, exams, and projects.
- Please review our Program of Studies on our website. The current year’s version is located there now, but we are preparing the 2021-22 version and will soon release it. With the exception of adding a few new courses – which we are enthusiastic about! – the majority of the document will be the same. If a student has any questions about a course, we encourage the student to reach out to the respective department teacher to learn more so the student can make an informed decision.
- Finally, we highly encourage your son/daughter to select courses based on what is best him/her. For example, we discourage taking a course simply because a friend is taking it. Students should make the best decisions based on their future goals and plans.
Here are some dates and processes we can share at this time. More detail will follow:
March 16, 17, 18 - Each grade level (with the exception of seniors) will meet in the auditorium. The scheduling process will be shared about the steps that students must take to schedule their courses.
March 19 - This is a 12:30 Early Dismissal day for students. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. we will be conducting a Virtual Course Scheduling Fair using Zoom so that all students can learn more from our core teachers (math, science, English, social studies) as well as from the Elective teachers. It will be important for students to note what electives he/she may be interested in as each prepares a schedule.
Early April - Each student in grades 9-11 will meet with his/her school counselor to review the student’s schedule. Please know that a final course schedule is not guaranteed until all scheduling is complete. Some classes occasionally won’t run due to limited numbers, or a class is closed because of space limitations. Generally, students at ‘Sock are able to get what they want – some may just need to wait until another school year or semester.
Please watch your email for Parentlink emails regarding specific steps as the month continues!

COVID Safety Reminders
Masks - an updated order has been issued by the Secretary of the PA Department of Health. The District WILL follow this new order. Please click here to read through the order.
Travel - Essentially, anyone travelling out of state must quarantine for a period of 14 days unless they get tested within 72 hours prior to returning to Pennsylvania and have a negative test. This includes travel to all states outside of Pennsylvania. Please refer to the PA Department of Health frequently asked questions for guidance on holiday travel.
Please don't hesitate to contact us should you require any further information or clarification.
Masks and face coverings are most definitely not comfortable, but are our new reality. We want to focus our time at school on learning, building positive relationships and keeping each other safe and healthy. Thank you for encouraging a positive attitude from your child.
What if a student doesn't wear a mask properly?
1. Student will be asked by a staff member to put on the mask and cover required areas.
2. If student refuses, and administrator will ask the student to put on the mask.
3. If student refuses, parent/guardian will be contacted.
4. If a student continues to refuse, they will be placed in isolated area away from others or need to be picked up by guardian.
Please remember to wear your mask, wash your hands and maintain a distance of 6 feet from others whenever possible.
There will be no tolerance for intentionally trying to spread germs or any type of related behavior. If this should happen, parents will be contacted. Again, our focus is on learning and safety. We want to maximize every moment we are at school. Thank you for your support!
