3 Days masterclass : Dyeing for textile lovers

Are you a weaver, spinner, quilter or any other textile-lover and looking for a more sustainable way of dyeing your own textiles, than this class will definitively speaks to you.
Under guidance of the well-experienced dye-master Leentje van Hengel you will learn how to dye on wool,silk, cotton, linen and hemp fabrics.
This workshop is suitable for starters and the more experienced dyers.
Natural dyes for wool, silk, linen, cotton and hemp. Many shades, wash and light fast.
During the 3 days the following topics will be discussed:
* Best way to mordant different fibers
* Combining natural colours with shibori
* With this you can give fabrics multiple lives
* How do you dye the deepest colours?
* NEW!! Cold mordanting and dyeing on cotton
* Productions revolve
* How to dye Garibaldi and Napoleontic red and
van Eicks green.
Mordanting affects the dyeing with natural colours on fabrics to a very large extent. This applies both in the resulting colours and the shelf life of the colours. Different methods of mordanting are explained in theory and given on paper. The participants receive already mordanted materials to work with. A range of rainbow colours is dyed in common and later on at home you have enough inspiration to move on your own. Meanwhile you can experiment with shibori . Wecwill be dyeing mainly with the extracts of Reseda(extract), Rubia(ext), chestnut (ext), Genista, Cochineal, Catechu, Woad and indigo.
Several colours and mixtures will be discussed and shown.
Who is Leentje van Hengel
Leentje van Hengel, owner of Tinctoria. ( www.tinctoria.nl) since 1991, is a passionated textiledesigner working with only natural dye-pigments. More than 30 years she investigates the dyed products on light-fastness and wash-fastness. Her knowledge brought her customorders for wellknown designers all over the world. For Claudy Jongstra, she dyed everything between 1999 and 2007. Leentje also helped to developped the rubia extract for the company Rubia in the Netherlands. Recent are the products for Thomas Eyck, designed by Christien Meinderstma and studio Belen.
